David Corenswet will play the Man of Steel in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, with Rachel Brosnahan to play Lois Lane, DC Studios announced today.

Corenswet is best-known for his breakout role in Netflix's The Politician, with Brosnahan earning acclaim for her role as the title character in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Gunn, who will be directing Superman: Legacy in addition to his role as the co-architect of the new DC Universe, confirmed the news. "Accurate!" Gunn wrote. "They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people."

Gunn previously revealed that Corenswet and Brosnahan were contenders alongside Nicholas Hoult.

Corenswet and Brosnahan are stepping into critical roles for the new DC Universe. Amid its well-publicized struggles, which includes The Flash being on track to be a box office bust, DC Studios is now looking to Gunn and Peter Safran to reboot its new cinematic universe. Superman: Legacy will be a major tone-setter for the new DCU, which Gunn has previously said will not be a clone of the MCU.

The plot summary for Superman: Legacy reads:

Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s (Corenswet) journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Superman: Legacy was announced earlier this year alongside Gunn and Safran's revamped DCU, with the first chapter being titled, "Gods and Monsters." The pair are setting up an eight-to-ten year plan, with actors expected to sign decade-long deals for movie and TV appearances. Other announced movies include The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and more.

Superman: Legacy's release date is set for July 11, 2025.
