Servant Coffee was founded with the fundamental belief that everyone prospers when we serve each other well.
Our Story
Upon leaving the corporate energy world after 15 years, John and his wife Sarah traveled with their two kids throughout Southeast Asia thinking and praying about their next move. Never completely convinced he wanted to be an entrepreneur, John always imagined his next career move would lead him to a smaller business where he could make a greater impact. Always the lover of coffee, he started wondering a bit more about the agricultural roots of coffee and how this impacted the communities at each origin. After their travels, they landed back in the US and decided on Denver as their next home, and with some time to spare before moving into their house they took their kids to Colombia for two weeks. John wanted to investigate the idea of coffee more, and Sarah wanted to expand her knowledge of Colombia for her travel business, Purposeful Wanderings. This is where the idea of starting a coffee company came to life.
Seeing firsthand the difference it made in communities when roasters are able to source more directly from the producers – and the ability to work with teams at the origin who create these partnerships with farms to demonstrate the value behind quality – John knew he wanted to be a part of it. Servant Coffee was launched behind these principles in October of 2019. It’s been a long and sometimes bumpy road but we remain committed to providing first class service, delivering high quality coffee, and fostering relationships at origins across the world.
Community Impact
From the beginning, we’ve been committed to making a difference on the local level by partnering with groups helping to support our community. We love serving others as much as we love serving amazing coffee, so we’ve built relationships with several Denver organizations that share our commitment to service.

Sourcing
Our goal in sourcing quality coffee starts with relationships. We want to know and be able to provide traceability for all of our coffees. We want to know the farmers or collectives from whom we are buying. We believe in long term partnerships that are mutually beneficial, and we want to continually support the farmers and producers who are always looking for ways to improve, all the way from cultivation to milling. Our suppliers are our lifeline, and we have a deep respect for the people who devote their lives to cultivating coffee. We want to see our suppliers, their families, and the surrounding communities flourish.
