Best Putting Mats of 2024 - Home, Indoor and Office Options

We all know the saying..."drive for show, putt for dough". While there has been some debate recently as to whether or not this holds as true as once previously thought, I think we can all agree that putting is a HUGE part of the game that is often overlooked. The average golfer will take between 30 to 40 putts per round of golf - roughly 40% of their shots. Yet I challenge you to go to your local club or driving range, and find the average golfer that spends 40% of their practice time dedicated to putting. Working on your putting at home is something that a golfer at any level can do. If you want some more confidence over those testy par putts on the course, this is one of the best types of practice you can do to lower your scores. At The Indoor Golf Shop, our goal is to stock quality products that we know will give you the best experience. In this guide, we'll give you a rundown of the different indoor putting greens available. We have choices specific for different scenarios and will share what we feel are the best indoor putting green options for each. We'll also take a look at the best brands, reviewing the pros & cons of each.

Best Indoor Putting Green
Overall

Big Moss Augusta Putting Green

The Big Moss Augusta Putting and Chipping Green is our best selling unit, and our pick for the best indoor putting green. Big Moss has been one of the leaders in the indoor & outdoor putting green space since first launching in 1996. Their products are known for their realism and portability, along with best in class quality and design. The Augusta indoor putting mat is one of Big Moss' more traditional models. It measures 4'W x 12'L and features a high density foundation which is removable. Wrinkle free turf made possible by using a rubber backed surface ensures that the Big Moss Augusta lays flat, even on carpeting - and prevents bubbling or bunching. Each putting green comes with a wraparound backstop (to keep the balls from rolling off the back of the putting surface), an upgraded golf chipping mat, a break snake (is placed under the green and is used to create undulations to simulate various breaks), and 2 chipping balls.

Big Moss Augusta Putting & Chipping Mat

Absolutely the best practice putting mat available. It rolls so true and fast just like greens on the course. The Augusta is constructed with top quality materials and will last a long time.

Big Moss Commander Outdoor Putting Green

When the weather is nice outside, you may want a solution that allows you to take your putting green outdoors. The Big Moss Commander putting green can be used both indoors and in the backyard, and is constructed of 15-year outdoor rated putting turf designed to simulate real world putting surfaces. It also uses a 5mm high density foam backing for additional durability. For this reason, the Commander is our recommendation for the best backyard putting green.

From a performance standpoint, the putting surface rolls true and is rated between a 10 and 11 on the stimpmeter, which is a typical speed found at most muny's. In addition to the putting surface, the Commander comes with a 3' long chipping mat extension - great for dialing in your pitching and chipping. There are three size options available: 3' x 15', 4' x 15', and a 6' x 15' version. The various options, ability to support both putting and chipping, and durable design make the Big Moss Commander one of the best putting greens for sale.

Best Office Putting Green

SIGPRO Tap In Putting Green (4' x 12')

When looking for the right option for your office, you not only want to consider performance, but aesthetics as well. For this reason, an office putting mat should be a presentable and more premium putting mat. The SIGRO Tap In is a great option that delivers both looks and performance.

Our SIGPRO putting greens are built up onto a small platform of interlocking panels, and consist of 2" thick premium putting turf on the top layer. An added benefit of the solid "platform" design is that one can stand on the putting surface without fear of causing a dip or bow. The surface runs pure and true, and is on the quicker side compared to other options. Our greens tend to run around a 10 on the stimpmeter, perfect for a contest at the office. This combination of design, performance, and portability is the reason why the SIGRO Tap In is our preferred choice as the Best Office Putting Mat.

Best Golf Rug & Putting Mat

Big Moss Country Club 610 Putting Green & Chipping Mat

We know what some of you may be thinking. "Who in their right mind would want a golf rug in the middle of their room". Well, I'm sorry to say, but there are quite a few of us that would more than welcome the idea. If you find yourself in this boat, you're going to want to consider the Big Moss Country Club putting mat. It measures 6'W x 10'L, providing plenty of room for practice and allowing it to double as a golf rug when not in use.

This putting green features Big Moss' True Roll technology, ensuring one of the purest rolls on the market. It's also large enough for you to practice your chipping and pitching, just make sure not to hit any walls or windows. The Country Club putting green comes with four putting cups, a chipping mat, hole reducers, a break snake, rear backstops, and can be rolled up and put away like a regular rug when not in use. Pair this putting green with the 3bays putting analyzers for the best short game practice.

This versatility between putting green and golf rug, is what makes this mat so special, and why we selected it as the Best Golf Rug and Putting Mat.

Big Moss Country Club 610

I bought this in march for my boyfriend's bday and he LOVES IT ! The material is great - nothing like the cheap stuff found at most golf retailers... cheap carpet and that rolls out. It can be vacuumed to have different break on the ball. The 4 holes are great he can shoot from different angles, the break snake that comes with it is great and the option to make the holes smaller for a challenge is also a bonus. He uses it daily in the winter - no more depressed boyfriend because he cant golf all winter. He said it was the best gift ever - and now his friends are all jealous and want one too!

Best Putting Mat Combo

SIGPRO Golf Simulator Flooring

Looking for an all in one hitting surface and putting mat? The SIGPRO Golf Simulator Flooring features an integrated hitting strip and 4 putting cups to be the perfect option for golfers wanting to improve all aspects of their game.

With 4 different putting locations you have the ability to work on short distance puts or puts that stretch the full length of the flooring surface. Of course, you won't always be putting on a flat surface, that's why we recommend using a  foam undulation kit to create different breaks & putting surfaces. The foam undulation fits perfectly under the turf of the SIGPRO Golf Simulator Flooring.

The integrated hitting strip means you can have a full golf simulator setup on top of the SIGPRO Golf Simulator Flooring. Play full rounds of golf on the SIGPRO Golf Simulator Flooring, from teeing off to putting, this is the perfect option for golfers looking for an all in one hitting & putting option.

Great putting floor. We got the SIG pro 12 floor and love it. Our daughter spends a lot of time just putting and working on her distance control. I would definitely recommend this product.

Putting Green Buying Guide - Options For Every Budget

Budget under $500

If you want to keep your costs as low as possible, we have several options. Big Moss is one of the leaders in this category, and we are proud to carry their products. Here are a few models you can consider if you are on a budget:

Focus Point Training Green

The Focus Point Putting Mat from Michael Breed is a great training aid if you have limited space. It features a narrowly focused zone which leads to a smaller-than-normal golf hole. It is also slightly tilted uphill, which will help promote a putting stroke that accelerates through impact. For only $79, this is one of the best bargain indoor putting greens because it gives unique visual aids that will help make your practice more effective. Additionally, it fits in nicely if you have limited space in your office or home.

Competitor Pro Putting Green & Chipping Mat

If you want a larger surface and have a slightly larger budget, then this model from Big Moss is a great option ($229). The surface measures 3' x 12' and has three differently-shaped holes. The 2", 3", and regulation holes will help vary the challenge of sinking each putt, which is a popular practice technique used by elite amateurs and professionals.

The General

If you want to step things up a notch, then take a look at the General. Measuring 6 feet by 12 feet, this is a much larger surface for golfers who have space. This model comes in a bit pricier at $450, but the extra space makes it feel like a real putting green. You can add contours to the surface to practice those nasty breaking putts that give you trouble on the course.

Mid-level $500 - $1,100

If you have a bigger budget, there are a few more options. At this price level, you can get larger surfaces that have sturdier bases that will lift your green above your flooring.

Fiberbuilt 4' x 10' Indoor Putting Green

At $899, the 4' x 10' Putting Green from Fiberbuilt is a great option. It measures 4' x 10' and also features a realistic chipping turf. All Fiberbuilt products come with their proprietary solid rubber foundation frame that create a soft, realistic base to stand on. This green measures approximately 9 on the stimpmeter, which will give you a very realistic roll. Overall, this is a great entry level item for golfers who want a more professional looking indoor putting green that is raised above their floor.

SIGPRO Premium Putting Green

The Indoor Golf Shop has entered the indoor putting green space. Featuring an interlocking base system that allows for a very realistic putting experience. It measures 4' x 10', which gives plenty of space to stand on. At just over $1,000, this model is meant for golfers who want a standalone structure that will perform at a high level for years.
