This article is about the notable events, related to Thang Ta (Meitei: ꯊꯥꯡ ꯇꯥ), a traditional Meitei martial art form, happened in 2024.

Events

  • 16th January: Manipur team was crowned overall team champions in the 67th National School Games Thang-Ta for U-14 and U-17 boys and girls organised in Delhi.
  • 30th January: Two Thang-Ta players from Nagaland get a medal each, one silver and one bronze, at the Khelo India Youth Games at PSG Indoor Stadium, Coimbatore.[1]
  • 8th February: Pravabati College and Biramangol College became men's and women's champions respectively in the "Rajkumar Sanahal Singh Memorial Manipur University Inter College Thang-Ta (M/W) Competition", organised at the TS Paul Manipur Women's College, Mongshangei under the aegis of Manipur University Sports Committee.[2]
  • 12th March: The Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur observed "World Thang-Ta Day 2024" at Thang-Ta Shanglen in Yumnam Huidrom, Imphal West district.[3]
  • 19th April: Living Arts Academy Manipur (LAAMAN) Thang-Ta celebrated its 41st foundation day at Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai in Imphal.[4]
  • 14th-21st April: A workshop on "Thang-Ta and Sarit Sarak" was organised by the Mangam Thang-Ta Lup at Irom Meijrao Thang-Ta Shanglen, under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Academi, New Delhi.[5]
  • 23rd April: Mangang Luwang Khuman Thang-Ta and Cultural Sindamsang (MLKTTCS), Huyel Lanlong Thang-Ta Association (HLTTA), Manipur and other Thang-Ta institutes collectively paid respectful tributes to the heroes of Khongjom War 1891 on the occasion of Khongjom Day.[6]
  • 27th April: A Thang-Ta institution named "Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Maheikol" was officially opened at Leimapokpam Khunpham Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district of Manipur.[7]
  • 31st May: A four-day National Thang-Ta Technical Officials and Coaches Training 2024 was concluded at Thang-Ta Shanglen, Yumnam Huidrom in Manipur, with trainees from Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Bihar, Gujarat, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh.[8]
  • 19th July: Huidrom Premkumar, a Thang-Ta activist and technical chairman of the Thang-Ta Federation of India, departed Imphal for a series of Thang-Ta training programmes due to be held in West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh.[9]
  • 24th July: Huidrom Premkumar, the technical chairman of the Thang Ta Federation of India, was awarded an honorary Doctorate for his work and contributions in the field of indigenous martial art of Thang Ta, by the World Culture and Environment Protection Commission in Delhi.[10]
  • 10th September: The 1st Union Territory Ladakh Thang-Ta Championship was concluded at Public Park Changrah, near MPS Saliskote, with the participation of over 150 players, coming from across Ladakh, in Kargil.[11]
  • 10th September: The Inter School District level Thang-Ta competition, organized under the SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) initiative, was concluded at Qamaria Higher Secondary School Saloora, in Ganderbal.[12]
