Own-userspace semi-protection

[change source]

Requesting my talk page archive User talk:FusionSub/Archive 1 to be semi-protected as I don't like the idea that a bad actor could meddle with my archives without me knowing.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 10:48, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Done MathXplore (talk) 10:49, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thanks.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 12:44, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@FusionSub: In addition to protection, you might also want to watch your archives. That way, you'll see them in your watchlist if anyone changes them. -- Auntof6 (talk) 10:59, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I really do need to start using my watchlist more.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 16:32, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a content dispute here (also see Special:Diff/9789677). I have guided the involved editors to discuss this on the talk page, but if there are further issues (such as WP:3RR) then I think protection would be needed. Comments? MathXplore (talk) 12:55, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I say wait Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 12:56, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Concur with Cactusisme, one of the involved editors has already taken to the talk page after your mention so I feel like the comment might be good enough for now. If the editorial dispute continues, then sure, I don't believe any other active editors would disagree with protection in that circumstance.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 12:59, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oakley Chan Hoi Kei issue

[change source]

Oakley Chan Hoi Kei was repeatedly created and deleted, and now Hoi Kei Oakley Chan was created. I suspect this is the same as Oakley Chan, which was deleted at an RfD. It keeps being created by different IP addresses, so it's hard to track, but a lot of them are from this range: Special:Contributions/2404:7C80:64:A9C9::/64, so maybe that range should be blocked. Batrachoseps (talk) 17:38, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator note: Page deleted, /64 blocked. MathXplore (talk) 01:16, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Range blocks

[change source]

Is there some rule that says if someone's requesting unblock for a range block, they have to email admins instead of using their talk page?

I'm asking because of this: Special:PermanentLink/9794670. Batrachoseps (talk) 19:44, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is no rule like that that I am familiar with. The range in question is a /64 block which administrators, especially on enwiki, have been encouraged to use for a majority of IPv6 cases, because IPv6s can change frequently within a /64 range. w:en:WP:/64 explains this all perfectly. I don't think it'd be fair on IPv6 users to have to email the admins list for a majority of IPv6 blocks, when we are just trying to ensure a single user is blocked. --Ferien (talk) 18:30, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Protecting Mahathir Mohamad's page

[change source]

If you look at Mahathir Mohamad's page history, there's been an uptick in vandalism/unproductive edits by unregistered users. Perhaps the page might need some protection for a short period of time until the IP vandalism dies down. TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 14:39, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What to do?

[change source]

Earlier I opened a deletion discussion for an Indian doctor, Anita Malik, which was deleted: Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2024/Anita Malik. However, there is also an American politician with this name. When the article was deleted, a new article Anita Malik was created about the politician. However it is now being replaced with content about the doctor. I assume it was done this way to avoid detection. What should we do, restore the version about the politician, or delete it? Batrachoseps (talk) 17:24, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think either are notable. The politician in question has not held a political office and has only been a candidate in two United States congress elections for a district. Per w:en:WP:NPOL, Just being an elected local official, or an unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability, although such people can still be notable if they meet the general notability guideline. I do not believe Malik passes GNG, but the election in question does. An ideal redirect would be to "2020 United States House of Representatives elections in Arizona", like enwiki have done, but we do not have that page here, so I have just redirected it to the national page for now. --Ferien (talk) 18:15, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Importing

[change source]

List of Bangladeshi inventions and discoveries is not available on Simple Wikipedia. It can be imported here. 😬CsmLrner 10:07, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CosmLearner Hi, Welcome to Simple, Templates and modules are the only things that get imported here, We don't import articles so you would need to create this yourself, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 18:17, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I had said importing that article from English Wikipedia here so that it can be edited with simpler words. Alright, thank you. CosmLearner (talk) contribs 18:36, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@CosmLearner, Again we don't import articles here, You're more than welcome to copy and paste the article from enwiki to List of Bangladeshi inventions and discoveries providing you simplify it after, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 19:21, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@CosmLearner: We can import it to your userspace for you to work on. If you would like that, please give a page name where you would like it (for example, User:CosmLearner/sandbox or User:CosmLearner/List of Bangladeshi inventions and discoveries). -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:15, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Last I checked we didn't import articles. Not sure what's changed but okay. –Davey2010Talk 20:26, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Davey2010: Any type of page can be imported. It depends on the circumstances. -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:50, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@CosmLearner:  Done You will need to simplify it and make other necessary changes before putting it in article space. See Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia for some information on the kind of thing needed. -- Auntof6 (talk) 20:54, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[change source]

Is LLM (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.) generated content allowed in Wikipedia? CosmLearner (talk) contribs 13:12, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CosmLearner: I haven't seen any policy about it either way. Keep in mind, though, that anyone working on Wikipedia is responsible for the changes they make, even if they didn't write the content themselves -- Auntof6 (talk) 13:17, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I asked for the article - Salailen. Its AI score is 100%. CosmLearner (talk) contribs 13:21, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@CosmLearner: I noticed that the creator had blanked the page, but someone un-blanked it. I deleted it anyway under WP:QD#G7. -- Auntof6 (talk) 15:01, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Trunc

[change source]

Template:Trunc was imported containing vandalism (look at the source code and you'll see the vandal image). On enwiki it now redirects to Template:Str left. Can an admin please determine if that would work here, and otherwise remove the vandalism? Batrachoseps (talk) 15:56, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IP range creating bad redirects

[change source]

Re Special:Contributions/2601:246:8201:5C40::/64: They have created a number of strange redirects. Many of them are not even related to their targets, however in one case, a notable politician was redirected to the article about his father. Would these qualify for QD? Batrachoseps (talk) 14:02, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

All deleted by BRPever. Batrachoseps (talk) 14:40, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, most are just vandalism. That page is better left as red link until a page is created to avoid confusion since the topic is notable.--BRP ever 14:43, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The IP range is doing this again. Maybe they should be blocked? Batrachoseps (talk) 14:04, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
