Putting everything you want to soak into a tea bag makes the whole thing way less messy and is only minimal effort. You can reuse the tea bags and it’s a quick and easy way to have a great bath experience.

Below, I cover exactly what bath brew tea bags are, how to use them and why you may want to make them yourself. I go through ingredients you can use and then describe exactly how you can make your own including a quick and easy video of how.

Let’s start!

What Is A Bath Tea Bag?

What is a bath tea bag? A bath tea bag is essentially what the name describes. It is a cloth bag that is filled with ingredients like flowers, herbs, salts, essential oils and more. The bath tea bag is left inside the bath tub to infuse the bath water.

The bath tea bags are filled with nourishing ingredients to help relax and de-stress the mind and body, to relieve sore, tired muscles and to soften the skin.

A herbal tea bath, as it is often called, is basically just a relaxing and soothing bath infused with a bag of herbal teas with the addition of bath salts, essential oils and more.

Reusable bath tea bags can be made with muslin bags or organza. It is important to let the bath tea bags completely dry out between uses in the bath and you should not do this more than twice. Much like a regular tea bag, the more uses, the less potent and effective it will be.

Using your bath tea bags more than a few times can also increase the risk of mould forming on your flowers and herbs.

There are a heap of different ingredients you can choose to include in your bath bags. It can be totally customised to your needs.

Flowers and herbs can have positive mental and physical effects on the body and choosing ones you want the most benefit from and love the smell of is always a great idea.

You can create your own bath tea bags based on your wants and needs for any particular occasion. E.g. stress reducing tea bags, energy encouraging tea bags, etc.

How To Use Bath Tea Bags

After making your bath tea bags, you are ready to use them. Bath tea bags are very simple to use. Simply drop your bath tea bags in bath water and let it soak for about 10 minutes. Depending on the strength you’d like your bath water you can leave it for as long or as little as you’d like.

If you have used colourful flowers and herbs, your bath water will probably change colour too. Once you have finished soaking your bath tea bag, you can remove it from the bath.

You can then make one of two decisions, throw away the contents of the tea bag or keep the contents inside the tea bag and dry it out completely to get additional uses out of it. If you choose the latter, the bath bag will slowly lose its potency and effectiveness. It is important to let the contents dry out completely to avoid mould too. You should not reuse your bath tea bag more than twice.

Once you are ready to throw the flower mixture out, you can keep the tea bag for future uses, provided it is reusable bath tea bags material like muslin or organza.

Why Make Tea Bath Bags?

The ingredients you choose to add to your tea bath bags will play a big role in the benefits you receive from your bath bags. There are many choices for ingredients in your tea bath bags. Generally though, they are going to include flowers, herbs and salts.

The combination of these ingredients is going to help relax and unwind you while you soak. It can help relieve muscle cramping and muscle tension, detoxify the body, reduce inflammation and stress and improve blood circulation.

Making tea bath bags with the combination of these ingredients will create a soothing, luxurious and calming feel to your bath.

You could just throw all of these ingredients into your bath but that would make a big mess you’d have to spend time cleaning after, reducing your relaxation time. Tea bath bags are a great way to stop the ingredients making a mess in your bath and potentially clogging your drain. The tea bath bags made from reusable cloth mean you don’t need to worry about constantly purchasing more.

Reusable Tea Bags

Reusable tea bags, such as those made from muslin cloth or organza, are great options for making your bath tea bags. Reusable tea bags mean you will not have to constantly purchase bags and will reduce the amount of waste produced. Using the reusable tea bags makes it super easy to create a luscious and luxurious bath. You can also reuse the contents of your tea bag up to 2 times.

If you are looking to reuse the contents of your bath tea bags, ensure you have completely dried it out between uses. I do not recommend using them after two uses as they will not provide much benefit. Just like a cup of tea, after steeping a number of times its potency and effectiveness are limited.
