This or That?

I need your help! I want to write and share with you something that I am excited about. There are so many options to talk about when I think of what I am passionate about. One that comes to mind right away is the Olympics. No, I am not talking about training and making it to the Olympics (yes that is me in the picture above), but rather the feelings that I get when I watch them. One year, I even had an Olympic themed birthday party!

One of my favorite times of year is summer, but that time is made even better whenever it is a year for the summer Olympics. When I watch, I might not even know the name of the person running a race, jumping over a bar, or swimming laps, but if they are wearing the colors of red, white, and blue for the United States, I am rooting for them all the way.

This patriotism is not completely uncommon for me, as I would say I have a pretty average amount of pride for my country. However, when I observe the athletes winning or losing, I feel all of the emotions that they go through too. I feel like when they win, I win, and the USA wins.

In the blog series pertaining to the Olympics, I would be talking about the emotions and feelings that the games give to citizens, participants, and families. I will be exploring in depth why these games are more than just a gold medal; they are our triumphs and failures. I would be trying to figure out why we feel this way and some of the most iconic moments in Olympic history and what made them so iconic and special.

Another topic that I am very passionate about is food. I believe that my record for eating wings is 14. But I still think that I could beat it. Why would I tell you that? So that you know that I can eat and actively enjoy it. I would be able to go to all of the different Penn State dining halls, and even some places in downtown State College and let you know the different atmospheres that places can bring and the quantity and quality of the products.

I even have some tips for the best foods, they don’t have to be that complicated and they are all very easily replicated. For example, have you ever put peanut butter on French toast? Some of you might have but, if you have never had the pleasure of tasting it, do it. You will never go back, and now I cannot eat French toast without peanut butter.

All of the Penn State dining halls have a buffet, but they all are different in other ways, South has the individual restaurants, West has a deli, and Pollock has so many options that it can be hard to choose what to get (or you could just get them all). Everyone always says that Pollock the best, but is it? We can choose to explore this together through this blog series.

So, what will it be? The Olympics or food? I would love to hear your feedback on which one I should continue to pursue!

  1. Your two blog ideas are very different but extremely interesting. The Olympic blog would be very informative and exciting, especially for me considering I do not usually keep up with the Olympics. Shining a light on the patriotism behind the Olympics would be an interesting view and a way to get a lot of people interested in the Olympics. I also think a blog about this from the perspective of someone who is heavily involved in the games and well-versed in the topics would allow for an instructive and fun read. On the other hand, the blog about the food at Penn State would be incredibly interesting. I would love the chance to learn about all the food options on campus. This is also beneficial because most students stick to the dining hall closest to them, but having knowledge of other options would be super helpful. As for which one you would pursue I think the topic of the Olympics would be more exciting for you, but the food blog would be more of an adventurous experience.

  2. Hey Sydney –

I really love your Olympic blog idea – I’ve always admired Olympic athletes and their seemingly supernatural abilities, but I have never taken the time to pay attention to the Olympic events and learn about them myself. I’ve watched them from time to time, but I have not really kept up with them through the years. As you seem to have a lot of passion and experience with this topic, I would love to hear your take on all things Olympics and become more familiar with the Olympics myself.

On the other hand, I still do think the food idea is fantastic as well. I personally have only eaten at the Redifer Commons buffet since I arrived here, so a blog that provides information on the other food choices I could be making here would be perfect!

Also, peanut butter on French toast was one of my favorite breakfasts back at home. I put peanut butter on everything

I look forward to reading whichever option you choose!
