No time to get your crews out for in-class training right now? No worries, here are some free, online offerings to check out and we think just about everyone will find something of interest. Maybe too much; you may become a training junkie!
The National Highway Institute has made 180 online courses available, now at no cost. They have topics dealing with materials, bridges, asphalt, concrete, paving, maintenance, pavement preservation, etc. You can browse the NHI online courses at their website. Browse the courses by choosing the web-based training (WBT) option. Get excited about a few courses. Then, use this flyer for instructions on how to link up with NHI and get started.
You have heard us talk before about the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ (AASHTO) Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council (TC3) web-based training before. If you haven’t browsed them yet, now’s the time. They have online offerings in the area of construction, materials, maintenance, traffic and safety, pavement preservation, and employee development. Pick a couple that sound good and, again, use the flyer for instructions to get started.
There’s more. Do you need to understand more about crack sealing, slurry seals, and other pavement preservation topics? Our friend at the Resource Center, Jason Dietz, let us know that the Federal Highway Administration and the Pavement Preservation and Recycling Alliance put together a whole series of upcoming, free webinars, with a new topic each month through the end of the year – pavement milling, slurry system site selection, crack treatments, tack, fog seals, chip seals, etc.. Flip through their webinar calendars to see the new topic on the third Thursdays of the month, click on them, and register. Oh, yeah, they’re free, too.
That should take care of your online needs through the rest of the year, but contact us if you have any problems accessing these and let us know how these performed for you.
