Common Core Implementation Update SEPTEMBER 4, 2014 CAMBRIAN SCHOOL DISTRICT

The week before school began teachers met for a day and a half to collaborate, both across grade levels and within their own district wide grade level teams to plan for further implementation of California Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

Common Core State Standards & 21 st Century Learning Goal The Common Core State Standards provide: a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn teachers and parents the know-how to help students. standards designed to be robust and relevant to the real world the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. (California Department of Education, 2014)

CCSS/21 st CL 2014-15 and Beyond Ongoing Professional Development Collaboration time for grade level/department teams/principals Incorporate CCSS-aligned instructional materials Supplement existing instructional materials with available resources Align formative and summative assessments with CCSS and SMARTER Balanced Revised report cards aligned with CCSS Include appropriate digital tools and other 21 st CL strategies in lessons and units Promote parent/community awareness, knowledge, and support Partnership with the Santa Clara County Office of Education, California Department of Education, Silicon Valley Math Initiative, and other organizations
