Dry Ice in Water
Science Performance – Dry Ice Group Performance 1. Plan and carry out an investigation to gather evidence to support an explanation for the causes, sources, and composition of the white substance flowing off the system (dry ice/solid carbon dioxide, and water). 2. Develop a model that shows the components of the system and changes in the system you are investigating. 3. Gather evidence to support an explanation for the causes and composition of the white substance you can see being given off when dry ice is placed into a cup of water. 4. Use evidence from the investigation to construct an explanation for how the white substance forms.
Science Performance – Dry Ice Individual Performance Write an explanation for the causes of the observed phenomenon and develop an argument supported by evidence for the composition of the white substance flowing off the system. Group Discussion

Science Performance – Dry Ice Science Reflection Consider how matter in the system is moving and the inputs and outputs of energy that cause the changes in the system. Teacher Reflection Write a reflection on the nature of instruction that supports students in using systems and core ideas about matter as evidence for explanations.
