Reading All year 9 classes have a library lesson once a fortnight. Students read for pleasure. They are able to make book suggestions to one another and ask for recommendations from the Librarian.
How to encourage reading at home Only 34% of 14 year olds read once a week. Try to encourage reading at home: ● ● ● ● Model reading - fiction and nonfiction Read the same book as your child and discuss the plot and characters Watch a film adaptation and then read the novel - discuss the differences Pre read what will be studied next week, next term, next year Read other books by the authors studied Read short stories (especially 19 th century) Visit the local library Listen to audiobooks
