One of the services we’re best known for at Dunn Lumber is our $60 flat-rate local delivery. Today, we’re sharing some of the specifics, including why we offer it, which locations qualify as “local,” and what to expect on the delivery day.
Why does Dunn Lumber offer $60 flat-rate local delivery?
Dunn Lumber offers $60 flat-rate local delivery for a simple reason: We want to make sure once you've purchased something from Dunn Lumber, it actually makes it to your home or jobsite safely. Transporting materials can be difficult—some are fragile or slippery, and the entire load can be very heavy—but with our packaging techniques and lumber delivery practices, we'll ensure it gets to your home smoothly. Unlike most of our competitors, we don’t have a tiered pricing or per-mile approach. That means you’ll receive the same quality service no matter what. Plus, we make every effort to maintain the shortest lead times in the Puget Sound. (For updated delivery lead times, call your salesperson.) All of this is in an effort to help you, our customer, get what you need so you can get your project done on time and on budget.
What qualifies as “local” delivery?
Our $60 flat-rate local delivery offering stretches as far north as Marysville, east to North Bend, and south to Federal Way. We’re also happy to deliver within a 10-hour driving radius at an hourly rate (additional fees, such as ferry fees, may apply) and offer freight-forwarding shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and the Pacific Rim. Live outside that area? Give us a call—while most of our shipping is to these areas, we’re happy to arrange a shipping solution to any destination.
What is the lead time on lumber delivery?
It’s impossible to give a concrete answer as lead times vary seasonally and with local demand. That said, in the winter off-season, same-day local delivery is generally doable. During the summer, which is our busiest time, local deliveries are generally handled within three or four days. It all depends on volume, what we have in stock, what trucks are available, what needs to be special ordered, etc.—your salesperson will have the best estimate, so give them a call for the current lead time.
What are the delivery window times?
We schedule deliveries by date, and our delivery hours are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. This delivery window is a function of the city sound ordinance, which means we can’t legally deliver outside of those hours. If you need a more precise delivery window, Dunn Lumber offers morning and afternoon time slots on a first come, first served schedule. You can schedule a morning delivery between 7 a.m. and noon, or an afternoon delivery between noon and 6 p.m.
How can I prepare for a lumber delivery or other delivery?
First, be sure someone can be on-site to accept the delivery when it arrives. Preparing to accept a delivery at the actual site is primarily a matter of finding space—for instance, if you live in a home built in the 20's with a small driveway leading toward a carriage garage, pulling into your driveway won’t work for our fleet. We’ll find a way to get your materials to you, and in a dense urban area, we'll work with you to ensure there's an open spot for us to park and load out.
Our deliveries are generally curbside. We’ll usually deliver with tilt-bed dump trucks so we can slide materials off the back, or with a truck with a forklift so we can lift materials from our vehicle to the site. Depending on the specifics of the site, we may deliver right into your garage, up on elevated surfaces, or down alleyways—wherever our equipment can safely operate.
What are the sizes of the trucks? How do I know if they’ll fit my worksite?
Dunn Lumber has a diverse and capable fleet to meet your delivery needs. We’ll bring the best truck for your order and delivery site. We’ll work with you during the process to determine the best option for your specific order. Here’s our current fleet, including information about weight limits:
What about special order deliveries, like windows?
We deliver windows and interior finishes in a covered truck. Some products are delivered by the manufacturers, including one of our window lines and our cabinet lines. Everything is delivered on dunnage up off the ground, and anything weather-sensitive will be wrapped in plastic.
Have questions about delivery? Don’t hesitate to give us a call—we’re happy to answer any questions you may have.
