SOURCE is the community engagement and service-learning center for the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Schools of Public Health, Nursing, and Medicine.
SOURCE’s mission is to engage the Johns Hopkins University health professional schools and Baltimore communities in mutually beneficial partnerships that promote health and social justice.
We also serve as a channel for student, faculty and staff involvement with community organizations, and local projects.
SOURCE has a particular, but not exclusive, focus on East Baltimore neighborhoods in close proximity to the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus.

Nominations open for SOURCE Community Service Awards
As a part of National Volunteer Week held annually in April, SOURCE presents awards to individuals and student groups that have shown a strong commitment to community engagement, service-learning and public health practice. SOURCE Community Service Awards are given for outstanding service and exemplary partnership with community-based organizations. Submit nominations by Tue, March 18.

Now accepting applications for 2025-26 SOURCE Service Scholars program
Are you looking for a way to make meaningful change in your community while completing your studies? Apply to be a SOURCE Service Scholar in 2025-2026! SOURCE is now accepting applications from students who will be enrolled throughout 2025-2026. SOURCE Service Scholars presents a unique opportunity for students to make an impact by completing 150 hours of community-based practice at a Baltimore community-based organization that is a SOURCE partner while receiving a $1,750 stipend. Scholars complete training in critical service-learning and apply their knowledge in real time while gaining valuable experience in project management. Open to students in BSPH, SON and SOM. Application Deadline: Fri, March 21.
Congratulations to our Star of the Month for March 2025, Maxwell Fontaine from the School of Nursing! Maxwell is actively serving our community this year working with several of our amazing partners. Through the Community Outreach Program, he has been working with Gallagher Services to support adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, while also serving at the The Pride Center of Maryland through SOURCE's HIV Counseling and Testing Program. In addition, he also volunteers with the Johns Hopkins HEAT Corps to teach special health education topics to K-12 youth in our city.
