Anup Kumar is a competitive kabaddi player from India who competes in the Pro Kabaddi League for the Jaipur Pink Panthers. He was born on November 20th, 1983, and is from the Indian town of Palra in the state of Haryana. He is a raider for his team and a great leader, earning him the moniker “Captain Cool.” 

Anup, a former coach of the Indian national kabaddi team, is a brilliant player and a superb tactician who makes his living by deceiving his opponents. He has a wide range of abilities to deceive the defender. But his signature move is the toe touch, in which he tags an unwary opponent solely with the support of his legs. He is also known as “Bonus ka Baadshah” because of his skill at earning bonuses (King of bonus).

He captured the gold medal at the Asian Games in 2010 and 2014 with the national team. Additionally, he won the gold medal at the South Asian Games in 2006, 2010, and 2016. In 2016, he and the Indian team won the third Kabaddi World Cup.

He led his team to victory in the second season of the PKL, where he was the top scorer among raiders in the first season. He is the only player to have led a team to three consecutive PKL championship games.

  1. Anup has been an officer of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) since April 2005 and is presently working as the state of Haryana’s deputy commissioner of police.
  2. Anup enjoys taking lengthy walks and is a fervent fitness enthusiast. Instead of using supplements, he chooses to increase the number of dried fruits and milk in his diet.
  3. Anup began his Pro Kabaddi League career with U Mumba in 2014, and for his 155 raid points, he was named the competition’s Most Valuable Player. He guided the group to the championship game, where Jaipur Pink Panthers prevailed.
  4. Anup declared his retirement from international kabaddi following the team’s title-winning performance at the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup in order to provide room for the young players. After participating in a few more PKL seasons after then, Anup retired from all game types during the PKL 2018, bringing an end to a 15-year career.
  5. During Pro Kabaddi 2019, Anup was chosen to lead the Puneri Paltan team. Nevertheless, the group struggled and came in at number ten.
