Hi, guys!

We have a situation here. In my opinion, we should let AXAMDEEP do ALL the chinese translation. He's been doing it for years already. What is going on now there is just aweful. It seems that people involved in translation even havent played the game yet and their versions of text are going "+".

It is a serious deal.

Let's discuss chinese translation here.

    somebody make some stupid translations, for example, Hello -> Get Out(in chinese), i fear that this would ruin the whole chinese translation of NS2.
    just as a Chinese saying goes, a rat's droppings can spoil a whole cauldron of soup.
    Not me stingy, just im a NS mania fans since 2003 :)

    Dont worry, you will be responsible for the last approval of strings.

    I have a question for this project in particular. The fonts do not support chinese characters (in fact they're missing a couple of unicode ones), are you using a custom font or something like this or does nothing display?

    I just made you admin, so you can approve strings, although I think, sadly, the chinese characters won't be supported by 1.0.

    i would also love to help out with the translation, been translating a lot these few days.
    axamdeep, can you please approve the strings that don't need translating at all? So people can stop trying to tranlate those? (like MAC,ARC babblers e.t.c)

    edit: I would love to help out if I have admin rights. But I guess it'd be quite a risk since I "joined" the forum yesterday? Been a loyal fan since NS1 and I have been paying close attension to NS2 developement process. not a native speaker per say, but my native language is chinese ( traditional) and the 2 languages is VERY translatable. Plus I am also a programmer so I suppose that would be a plus since I actually knows how Strings, config filies and encoding works?

    yeah, i always edit related .lua file to change fonts and font size for display chinese fonts (such as change "..\AgencyFB.fnt" to "Arial"), after a new build release.
    now im trying to do something with display of custom font. but it failed, even if i made a correct .png+.fnt file, and i had tested it in other game and it's ok. but it cannot display the unicode characters in ns2, i have no idea about this.

    is it possible to change this thread's name to 汉化(简体) chinese translation (simplified) ?

    as for a recommendation for HK or taiwanese players - not yet, lets first see how they will proceed with the work.

    of course they can just use axamdeep's version (I hope he wont disagree) (just with traditional characters), but as expirience shows they prefer to use their own interpretations, which are ok too.

    按理来说是不应该翻译,举例来说,每个人都能打出hive这个 词,但并不是每个人都会在语音中说出"hive"这句英文,要考虑到一些人看得懂但不会说,为了方便语

    嗯嗯,我个人一æ·æ˜¯åå‘中+英,就是怕会对句子结构改动过大.
    marine可以中+英,但alien那边有一大å†éƒ½æ˜¯æ²¡æ³•æ”¹çš„. 一边中+英, 一边英会不会很怪?

    那個40秒(?)出來一次,太長會一直擋住玩家的视线,可以短一點嗎??

    如果一句话ä½è§‰å¾—太长挡着视线,试问如何把这句话(举例 ) : “位于SUB ACCESS的资源塔正在遭受攻击” 或“位于SERVER ROOM的母巢建é€å®Œæˆâ€ è¿™æ·çš„长句提示缩短?这种提示也是经常会出现在游戏屏幕 æ­£ 上方的

    不会是以“SUBACCESS的矿被打” è¿™æ·æ¥ç¼©çŸ­å§ï¼Ÿ

    ä½çš„例子要表达的信息太多,长一点没办法, 但NO_COMM 那个明显åŠå…¥äº†"感情", 把6个字可以说完的事拉长.
    ä½çš„例子都有一种"简洁,描述" 的风æ¼, NO_COMM 那个æ¼æ¼ä¸å…¥(个人意见)
    那些跳出的信息都是要在战斗中引起人注意的, 太长就不好了.
    最后,其实那一些跳出的信息可以不用完整句子,正常人玩4 5 次大脑就ä¹æƒ¯äº†,会自动过滤掉语法了, 说重点就好.
    个人认为心态不应是"都有比那个长的,没关系啦"而是"那个比这个短喔,可以把这个精减吗?"

    edit: 游戏类型不同,句子结构都要不一æ·. RPG/Turn base strategy 可以长一点, FPS RTS 在游戏时会用到的就一定要短, FPS玩家没时间慢慢看的. 以明显的记号隔开重要信息可以使人的眼睛快速聚焦到重点.

    没错,要的就是催人去当COMM的效果,而不是句子长不长短不 短 的问题。ä½åªè¦çŽ©ä¸Š100小时NS1或NS2,应该意识到战斗中缺少CO
    MM一般有å‡ç§æƒ…况 1.开局1-2分钟后还没有人做COMM 2.COMM出来干活,不幸中了埋伏,重生过程中æ—人担任COMM 3.本局陆战队注定会输/会赢,连COMM都端起武器参战了

    在NS1里 缺少COMM时是不会有这种提示的,这是引擎没有的功能可以理 解 。 但 NS2里 缺少COMM时左上角的小地图下放会提示“no commander” 也就是 没有指挥官,还是用的亮红色字体,并连续闪烁,难道不是 为 了提醒 人 们 的注意吗
    。

    不一定,有的时候真的会看不到, 人的主要视角是正前方60~度, 别的都是附åŠè§†è§’. 战斗中时大脑都会先处理那里的信息. banner 的用途(我认为) 是要把UI中一些不太明显的信息置中,不必太大修改.

    PS 我都玩NS1 2~3年了算是有点经验吧?

    to be honest I am slightly disappointed, The translation thing seems to be...worthless?
    A Huge part of the game uses character set/encoding that doesn't not support simplify/traditional chinese.
    I found this out after I started translating as well.

    So I guess those 2 translation is on hold for now until we get some good news.

    Awww that is too bad. I don't have much experience with text encoding at all, so I'll have to take your words.
