You can put me in your back pocket Save me for a rainy day You can put me in your back pocket Honey just don’t throw me away You can hang me up in your closet Get me out when it’s time to play You can put me in your back pocket Honey just don’t throw me away I know I’m such a pushover Why don’t you hit me with your bulldozer I know I’m such a pushover Don’t you hit me with your bulldozer You can put me in your back pocket Save me for a rainy day You can put me in your back pocket Honey just don’t throw me away I know I’m such a pushover Why don’t you hit me with your bulldozer I know I’m such a pushover Don’t you hit me with your bulldozer You can put me in your back pocket Save me for a rainy day You can put me in your back pocket Honey just don’t throw me away Oh no, honey just don’t throw me away

I used to be so sure that we were meant to be Lowering the standard to sheer mediocrity Statistical analysis has opened up my eyes To the probability of our future demise, oh ‘Cause in all likelihood we’re already on course For a loveless marriage and some terrible divorce Which would traumatize my things, split apart the kids No, no, no, let’s not and say we did Let’s not and say we did Let’s not and say we did Let’s not and say we did Let’s not Of all these factors, we could not control a thing Determinalistically she’s a puppet on a string, oh ‘Cause in all likelihood we’re already on course For a loveless marriage and some terrible divorce Which would traumatize my things, split apart the kids No, no, no let’s not and say we did Let’s not and say we did Let’s not and say we did Let’s not and say we did Let’s not and say we did

I cannot live without you The world revolved around me and you I think I’ll throw your love away I thought I had found another Regret was soon uncovered In the early light of day Throw Your Love Away Throw Your Love Away Throw Your Love Away I cannot live without you The world revolved around me and you Why did I throw your love away?

Wonder what you are doing here As they greet you with a synthetic smile Such a wonderful view from here Wish you could live in this kind of style The wide world waits outside While you sit and watch vacation slides Swirl and cover up a star-filled sky Where laughter makes you cry ‘Cause you cannot stand Other people’s happiness People and their stupid happiness So you go out to see a show Forget about things for a while Observe somebody else’s dream fulfilled Think “how did I forget mine?” The sound of symphonies Just remind you of those broken dreams You try to sing along but you just scream out “What the hell is wrong with me?” I cannot stand Other people’s happiness People and their stupid happiness Other people’s happiness People and their stupid happiness Everybody wants to know how to get it right Messaging the neighbors with distant satellites Pictures of the greener grass from the other side We forgot how to live a real life Everybody wants to know how to get it right Messaging the neighbors with distant satellites Pictures of the greener grass from the other side Show me how to live real life again

Pictures of Ourselves Pictures of Ourselves It’s a demonstration of the perfect pair (Pictures of Ourselves) Give the bathroom mirror your intense stare (Pictures of Ourselves) Holding up traffic while you fix your hair (Pictures of Ourselves) Let the world know you’re really going somewhere (Pictures of Ourselves) Until the grid goes black and the lights all go The servers explode, 'cause they can’t possibly hold all the Pictures of Ourselves Pictures of Ourselves All your coolest friends are having a good time It’s an image and it took years to refine Pictures of Ourselves Pictures of Ourselves And that’s the legacy you're gonna leave behind Pictures that make life look like a party all the time Fishing for approval with a cryptic flair (Pictures of Ourselves) Flipping off the camera ‘cause you just don’t care ("IDGAF," "Right") Absurd, obscured insecurity (Pictures of Ourselves) Striking all the poses you want us to see (Pictures of Ourselves) Until the grid goes black and the lights all go The servers explode, they cannot possibly hold all the Pictures of Ourselves Pictures of Ourselves All your coolest friends are having a good time It’s an image that took years to refine Pictures of Ourselves Pictures of Ourselves And that’s the legacy we’re gonna leave behind Pictures that make life look like a party all the time That’s the legacy I’m gonna leave behind Pictures that make life look like a party all the time

When I close my eyes, your smile is all I see In a shutter’s flash it has become this missing part of me Now if ever it goes away, in my heart I will keep it safely Burned into my eyes like I’ve been staring at the sun You held my hand, I died, time slipped away from me I fear the real world has become some alternate reality If I wake up and you go away, in my heart I will keep you safe You’re burned into my eyes like I’ve been staring at the sun You’re burned into my eyes like I’ve been staring at the sun

Back before the turn of the century Bored with the usual toys We begged our parents for instruments for Christmas We made such a terrible noise We didn’t know about the majors or minors Or even old 1-4-5 (1-4-5) The neighbors cursed and covered up their ears But we gave each other hi-fives (each other high fives) Thank you for listening to me butchering “Thank you for letting me be myself again” I know it sounded like the end of the world I know it sounded like the end of the They had the nerve to call us nerds and Dad’s over now making a scene We knew the lyrics to the two chord songs And we didn’t yet know what they mean Thank you for listening to me butchering “Thank you for letting me be myself again” I know it sounded like the end of the world

Summer, whatever became of you Tell me where you ran off to We were just becoming friends Summer, I still think of you Do you think about me too And lament our season’s end I still wonder how you feel about me now I still wonder how you feel about me now I still wonder how you feel about me now And would I still feel the same way if I knew I still wonder how you feel about me now I still wonder how you feel about me now I still wonder how you feel about me now And would I still feel the same way if I knew Summer, whatever became of you Tell me where you ran off to We were just becoming friends

Late nights sitting up in the bed now All alone, regrets in my head now By the time I finally close my eyes I see the light from the sunrise in my window So I just get up and right it down now Feeling like I’m running out of time now What’s the point of looking for love If everybody, everybody, everybody dies alone Is this a dead end, ‘cause I’m losing sleep Do I play the game, or does it play me The house always wins and I’m still too weak Predicting the end of a losing streak Suddenly I’m looking for romance now On the phone begging for an advance now Money only buys you cheap thrills Like the love of a machine or a trophy wife Mile markers going to my head now But the finish line fills me with dread now And there’s a hooded figure In my rear-view mirror with a scythe, going “It’s later than you think” Is this a dead end, ‘cause I’m losing sleep Do I play the game, or does it play me The house always wins and I’m still too weak Predicting the end of a losing streak Is this a dead end, ‘cause I’m losing sleep Do I play the game, or does it play me The house always wins and I’m still too weak Predicting the end of a losing streak

You are the brightest star that ever shone on me Metaphor is useless, so I'll try the simile You’re like the brightest star that ever shone on me But words are useless to describe reality I don’t wanna be without you now No I don’t wanna be without you now I don’t wanna be without you now I wanna be the man beside you Oh yeah, I wanna be the man beside you You are the brightest star that ever shone on me Metaphor is useless, so I'll try the simile You’re like the brightest star that ever shone on me But words are useless to describe reality I don’t wanna be without you now No I don’t wanna be without you now I don’t wanna be without you now I wanna be the man beside you Oh yeah, I wanna be the man beside you Oh yeah, I wanna be the man beside you Oh yeah, I wanna be the man beside you Oh yeah, I wanna be the man beside you You are the brightest star You are the brightest star You are the brightest star

True love (they say) Is far away (they say) Like some message in the sky half-written by an aeroplane And true love (they say) Is close to me (they say) In the air I breathe, it’s never-ending, bigger than a dream Filled with fear, I fade away Can you help me out, I think I’ve lost I’m afraid I’ve lost my faith That true love is more than just some sentimental dream And that true love never fails, it’s not just something to believe in Although it caused my greatest pain, I still can’t let it fade away, ‘cause I wanna believe That it’s the only thing I really need Filled with fear, I fade away Can you help me out, I think I’ve lost I’m afraid I’ve lost my faith That true love is more than just some sentimental dream and that True love never fails, it’s not just something to believe in Although it caused my greatest pain, I still can’t let it fade away, ‘cause I wanna believe That it’s the only thing I really need She said, “true love is more than just some sentimental dream” There was nothing I could say; I know love is a state of being To tell the truth I’m sad to say 'Cause when I think of love that way It’s true, and I feel That nothing I have known is real

First off there was a blinding light Someone smacked my ass to make me cry I know I’m alive but I don’t know what for Now I’ve got to fight to find subsistence Amidst the scrambling of my egg-zistence “Please God, I never asked you to be born” Rolling boulders with a smile Or shaking your fist at the sky Do I laugh or do I cry at the absurdity of life? Where tyrants live and children die of cancer Every religion says it’s got the answer Tony Robbins said "the answers are within" The daily violence, I can’t keep track I gaze into my heart, the void stares back We search to find the greatest clowns and crown them kings We get a chance, but we still won’t try We barely get to live before we die So do I laugh or do I cry at the absurdity of life? The absurdity of life The absurdity of life The absurdity of life The absurdity of life Please, God, please, these puzzle pieces never will fit right And if you are real, then why must I deal With the absurdity of life? Tell me you are real, ‘cause I just can’t deal With the absurdity of life Tell me you are real, ‘cause I just can’t deal With the absurdity of life

Oh my love, I tried To kill the memories of our time And then I'll change my mind Clinging to the few that still survive You were the nightmare spinning in my head I never was good at tying up these loose ends But I can't take this anymore I've lost my mind; can I lose more I guess it's finally time to let it go Did you move away or die Your poison darts stuck in my mind Then return with arms out wide Like you're the one who's crucified I led you to believe I hated you I guess I was still hoping that your love was true But I can't take this anymore I've lost my mind, and I'll lose more I guess it's finally time to let it go I guess it's finally time to let it go I'll give up now, alright I'll let you go

I looked all around Everywhere for love Yet somehow it passed me by I guess I’ll give this one last try I’m searching all around Like there’s something I can find To make a sad excuse for a life worthwhile Something I can do to make an old heart new again The roller coaster spins you ‘round And thrills before it throws you down I bled my heart out to prove it once was true I looked all around Everywhere for love Yet somehow it passed me by Is there nothing I can do To make an old heart new again

about

Streetcar Conductors began as the solo project of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Moore. Over the years it has evolved into a band consisting of two guitars, bass, drums and synthesizers. “The Very Best of Streetcar Conductors” is a collection of personal favorite songs from throughout Jonathan’s 20+ year journey of songwriting and performing. The idea was to create an album that sounds like a greatest hits collection, culled from various releases spanning the time period from the 1990’s through today, with each song standing alone as its own individual production. For all its variety, there is a consistent pop sensibility to it all - catchy melodies, overdriven guitars, male-female sing along vocals, and analog synthesizer leads. The album is a timeless collection of power pop gems, and is set to become the sing-along soundtrack of many summers to come.
