NEW ORLEANS – Marshall senior forward Nate Martin has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Thundering Herd to a pair of non-conference victories during the second week of the season.
A Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team selection, Martin receives the recognition for the second time in his career after garnering the honor on Jan. 30 of last season.
Martin averaged 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting 77.8 percent from the field to pace Marshall in two double-digit home wins over Southern Indiana and Bellarmine.
Against Southern Indiana on Nov. 11, the senior tallied 18 points and five rebounds as he made five of his seven shots from the field, including the first two 3-pointers of his collegiate career, in a 77-63 victory over the Screaming Eagles.
Martin followed up with 23 points – one shy of his career-high – with nine boards and a pair of steals in an 83-62 victory over Bellarmine. The Houston, Texas native shot 9-for-11 from the field and went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
