Which types of Wi-Fi networks can my Fitbit watch connect to?

Your Fitbit watch can connect to open, WEP, WPA personal, and WPA2 personal Wi-Fi networks. Your watch won’t connect to 5GHz, 802.11ac, WPA enterprise, or public Wi-Fi networks that require logins, subscriptions, or profiles. If you see a captive portal when connecting to the Wi-Fi network on a computer, the network isn’t supported. A captive portal opens a web page in your browser and could ask for a username and password, payment, or acceptance of terms. This is commonly found when connecting to Wi-Fi networks in hotels, airports, coffee shops, and other public places. For best results, connect your watch to your home or work Wi-Fi network. Make sure you know the network password before connecting.

Note that you can connect your watch to a personal hotspot which lets you share the cellular data of your phone or tablet when you don’t have access to a Wi-Fi network. Additional data charges from your mobile carrier may apply.

How do I add a Wi-Fi network to my Fitbit watch?

You’re prompted to connect your watch to a Wi-Fi network during setup. If you skipped this step or want to add other networks to your watch, complete these steps:

  1. In the Fitbit app, tap the Today tab   Devices  your watch.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi Settings.
  3. Tap Add Network and follow the on-screen instructions to connect your watch.
After you add a Wi-Fi network, your watch automatically downloads new music or apps when it’s plugged into the charger and in range of the network.
How do I change the Wi-Fi network my Fitbit watch is connected to?

Your watch can store up to 5 different Wi-Fi networks. It automatically connects to an available Wi-Fi network when plugged into the charger. If there are 2 or more Wi-Fi networks in range, choose the network your watch should connect to:

  1. In the Fitbit app, tap the Today tab   Devices  your watch.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi Settings. Wait a moment for the list of networks to appear.
  3. Tap the network name, then tap Connect.
