Fix Pixel Tablet microphone issues

If your Pixel Tablet's microphone isn't working or sounds quiet, here are a few steps you can try to fix the issue.

Check if your microphone can pick up sound

Use the steps below to identify if the issue is with your Pixel Tablet’s microphone, or with an app.

Check that your microphone is turned on and not muted

In Quick Settings:

  1. Swipe down from the top of your screen.
  2. Tap Mic access.
  3. If your microphone is turned on, it will display “Available.” If it’s turned off, it will display “Blocked.”

In an open app:

If your Pixel Tablet’s microphone is not picking up your voice during calls or in any of your apps, check if you have the mute button pressed on the call or app screen. If the mute icon is displayed, your microphone won’t pick up any sound from your end.

Try to record audio

Test your microphone by recording audio on your Pixel Tablet:

  1. On your device, open the Recorder app.
  2. Tap Record .
  3. When you’re done recording, tap Pause and then Save.
  4. Open and play the audio you recorded to check if your microphone picked up sound.

If there is no audio recorded in the sound file, follow the steps in Fix a microphone that doesn't work.

Try using the microphone to make a Meet call

Use the Google Meet app to check if your microphone works with apps.

  1. Open your device's Google Meet app .
  2. Tap New and then under "Connect on Meet", tap a contact.
  3. Start a call with your selected contact:
  • To make a video call, tap Call .
  • To make a voice call, tap Voice call .

If your contact is unable to hear you, follow the steps in Fix a microphone that doesn't work.

Re-install apps with microphone issues

If only certain apps have issues with the tablet’s microphone, delete those apps and then re-install your apps by following these steps:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. At the top right, tap the Profile icon.
  3. Tap Manage apps & devices and then Manage.
  4. Tap the name of the app you want to delete.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  1. From the same Manage screen, go back to the top and tap This device and then Not installed to locate the apps you deleted and then tap Install or Enable.

Restart your Pixel Tablet

If you are experiencing issues with your microphone, try to restart your Pixel Tablet:

  1. Swipe down from the top of your screen.
  2. Tap Power and then Restart .
Note: If you have a PIN, pattern, or password set up on your tablet, you'll need to enter it after a restart, even if you set up a fingerprint.

Update your Pixel Tablet

Outdated software versions of the Tablet can cause issues with communication between the different apps and functions of the device, including the microphone. Update your software by following the steps below:

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap System and then Software updates.
  3. Check the screen for device software updates.
  4. If an update exists, tap it and thenfollow the on-screen instructions.
