Add block transfers

Block transfer, also known as in-seat transfer, lets passengers transfer from one trip to another within the same vehicle.

When the system examines the relevant consecutive trips of a transit vehicle’s block_id mechanism in the General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS), the system will determine the block transfers.

Understand block transfers

When passengers search for directions in Google Maps:

  • Block transfer possibilities are considered.
  • Combined trips show as a single, continuous route.
  • When the trip reaches the stop where the block transfer happens, passengers will receive instructions to stay on the vehicle.

To use this feature, the transit partner must add relevant information into the static feed.

  • If any blocks are defined in a static feed, the transit partner can view the information in the “Validation Report” on the “Overview” tab.
