Hyderabad: The Bowenpally police on Monday arrested five persons in connection with an honor killing at Old Bowenpally on Saturday night. The victim was the husband of a woman, whose relatives, including her father, did not agree with her marriage. The police seized three knives, two bikes and five mobile phones from them.
The arrested include Mohd Shabbir Ahmed (25), Mohd Omer (25), Abdul Mateen (25), Syed Sohail (25) and Shaik Abu Bakar Siddique (29). One person Ibrahim is absconding.
According to the police, the victim Mohammed Sameer had married the daughter of the prime suspect Shabbir, a few months ago without the consent of the woman’s family. On coming to know about it, Shabbir went to the house of Sameer and on the pretext of organizing a grand function and send off, took away his daughter back to the house.
“Later, the victim Sameer contacted Shabbir and asked him to send his wife backto this home. However, Shabbir refused and instead asked Sameer to end the relationship and sign divorce papers. Shabbir maintained the status of his family in the society will be tarnished if his daughter stayed with Sameer,” DCP (North) S Rashmi Perumal, said.
Sameer was not willing to sign the divorce papers and was planning to take away his wife. “After several warnings to Sameer, the father Shabbir planned to eliminate him. On Saturday night, Shabbir along with remaining suspects stabbed Sameer to death at Old Bowenpally leading to his death,” the official said.
The arrested five persons were sent to remand and efforts are on to apprehend Ibrahim, who is absconding.
