Sony starts rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat update for Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Xperia Z Tablet

Sony has started updating its last year flagship lineup. It has just started rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Xperia Z Tablet. The devices got themselves the 4.3 Jelly Bean and the 4.4 KitKat has started seeding globally. The latest upgrade brings all the functionalities of Android 4.4 KitKat. Here's what the official changelog has to say:

  • Sleek launch animation and livewallpaper across the lock and home screens similar to PlayStation 4
  • New UI adjustments in Messaging, including a new send animation, and deeper Emoji support and smileys
  • Xperia Camera apps directly accessible from your viewfinder, including personal favourite Creative Effect, and more
  • Tweaked, improved current experiences for Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, TrackID TV, Sony Select, Smart Social Camera and more
  • Battery STAMINA Mode brings smarter data management & more for better battery life
  • Sony’s Media apps: WALKMAN, Album and Movies, with Sony Entertainment Network cloud service integration with a more intuitive UI, better download speeds, and more
  • Xperia Themes, with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select
  • Compatibility with SmartWear Experience; SmartBand SWR10 and Lifelog app

Alongside the roll out of the KitKat upgrade for the flagship devices, it also announced that it has started working on the KitKat update for its current mid rangers which include the Xperia M2, Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia E1. An update for them will arrive by July.
