After many months of campaigning, the three-way mayoral race concluded Tuesday evening, with businessman Patrick Payton sweeping the election after garnering 10,867 votes.

Incumbent Mayor Jerry Morales came in second in the race, drawing 6,775 votes. Businesswoman Jenny Cudd came in third with 3,302 votes.

Morales conceded the race to Payton Tuesday evening after results began pouring in late due to technical difficulties with the new voting machines in the elections office. Payton was congratulated on his victory on social media by Cudd, as well.

Payton will be sworn into office and begin his three-year term as the mayor of Midland on January 13, 2020.
