Turkey Face Cookies
Ten days. Ten Turkeys. Ten different cookie cutters. I have the ten turkey cookie designs that are made with ten different cookie cutters, but I had a little trouble with making and posting them in ten days. I will explain it to you shortly, but until then, here is turkey #6 and this simple turkey face cookie is made with a sailboat cookie cutter.
When I made this cookie tutorial I didn’t include a video because way back when videos weren’t the thing to do. All that’s changed and I love making videos so I made one for you. How to Make Simple Turkey Face Cookies and you’ll see how to use a sailboat or an ice cream cone cookie to make these cute guys. Enjoy!
I have to admit, this is my favorite turkey so far in this challenge. I think it is because it is super simple to decorate and it makes a statement. The picture tells a story without saying a word. These turkeys don’t know what hit them. Or chopped them. Or plucked them. What is the correct thing to say here? I am not sure but, you get the idea.
Remember when I told you that the 10-day challenge has been a little difficult for me. Well, here is why. See this cute little kiddo here? That is my adorable, precious and super smart grandson. He has lived next door to me since he was born. Well, they moved today and he now lives about 45 minutes away. I know that doesn’t sound like it is all that far away but, when you go from seeing something this precious every day to not seeing him every day, well, it is hard.
We had a good “last night” as neighbors. He slept over and decided to do all sorts of fun things like, “paint Nana’s flowers” with yellow icing. He likes decorating cookies but putting a few extra layers of icing on flowers seems to be all the rage with 2-year-olds these days.
Anyway, I didn’t post this post yesterday because my favorite little guy spent the night and we made forts with pillows, he swam in my big bathtub and then we ate pizza while watching cute kid moves. I cherished every moment as I have since he came into my life and I thought you all would understand especially after seeing his wicked mad decorating skills.
We have a lot of sleepovers planned so you’ll see more flowers and cookies he’ll make for Christmas and maybe a gingerbread house or two. Who knows, maybe we will share our super-secret tips on how to make a pillow fort and how to make royal icing flowers look great with extra icing. In the meantime, here is how we made the turkey face cookies.

- Begin by outlining and flooding the beak with the yellow icing and let it dry completely.
This next step can be done in different ways because you can outline and flood the eyes now or do it after you outline and flood the head with the brown icing. If you want to plan ahead you can make royal icing transfers because they make life easier! I wish I would have made the transfers for these guys because like I said, it makes things easier.
I made these turkeys both ways. So far I haven’t seen any bleeding but we all know white icing is like a sponge. It soaks up the colors around it. So make it any way you want. It is your cookie after all.
- Outline the head with the brown icing.
- Outline the eyes with the white icing. Flood only one and add a 4 mm black edible pearl with the icing is wet. Let it dry 20 minutes.
- Repeat for the other eye.
- Let it dry overnight.
- Next flood the brown. Or if you flooded the brown first, repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 in the photo above.
- Add the snood with the red icing and as you can see in the photos, I like to mix it up and make them all different because it’s fun and gives them a little personality.
- Add two black lines for the nose.

You are the best Anita! Hugs my friend!
Now that’s what I call creative use of a cookie cutter. I never would have guessed a sailboat!
Wow, grandmother, I thought that was your son! He’s very cute, must be a heartache to have him move away.
lol…talk about personality!
So sad to have your grandson move even 10 minutes away when you are used to having him next door. I’m glad you had a wonderful evening together. Your turkey cookies are adorable and no one minds you missing a day so you can have fun!
The cookies are super-cute as is your grandson!
This ones my favorite !
I thought it was a golf tee! Very cute turkey, and even cuter grandson! I totally get it, Lisa. HUGS!
This has to be the cutest design done with our sailboat cutter! You are really just so clever! I am so glad that you had such a wonderful time on your last night as neighbors. He has just been so lucky to live right next to you and I am happy that he will not be too far away. I see a lot more fun memories coming up!
This is exactly what I’m looking for!! I don’t always just the right shape. I much prefer repurposing what I do have to create another shape. Thank you so much for this!! It’s so creative and the instructions are wonderful!
Would you consider doing another repurposing tutorial for another theme, maybe spring or winter?
Oh – just my two cents – I love reading the instructions with the photos as opposed to a video tutorial. Much easier for me!
Hi Katy,
I’m glad you like my little turkey! LOL
I’d love to repurpose something for spring. Email me at lisa@thebearfootbaker.com and we can chat about your ideas.
PS-I’d love to see a picture of your cookies! Let me know where to find them.
