This mango milkshake is cold, creamy, full of real mango flavor, and the perfect way to cool down on a hot day! It's ready in under 4 minutes, and has just 3 main ingredients. I've provided a dessert version and a healthy smoothie version too!

Growing up in Brazil, I ate a lot of mangos. And while there is really nothing like biting in a ripe juicy mango, this creamy mango milkshake is the next best thing. Combining fresh mangos with vanilla ice cream is a match made in heaven!
This mango shake is so simple, and super easy to customize. You can make it using regular dairy ingredients or you can make it completely dairy free and vegan!
It can also be made two ways - with whipped cream and ice cream, or you can make it healthy like a mango smoothie (and it still feels like you're eating dessert).
Why This Mango Milkshake Works
- This recipe has just 3 main ingredients, and a few optional ones that will bring your mango milkshake to the next level!
- You can use fresh mangos or frozen mangos in this recipe, which means you can make it all year round.
- This recipe can be made as a healthy smoothie by making a few simple swaps, or you can enjoy it as a delicious dessert and top it with a mountain of whipped cream!
- This recipe makes enough for two mango milkshakes, but you can easily divide the ingredients in half to make just one or double it to make milkshakes for the whole family!
- This shake is gluten free, egg free, soy free, vegetarian, and nut free, and can be made dairy free or with regular dairy ingredients.
Ingredients Needed

- Mangos: Fresh mangos are best, as they are often more flavorful than frozen mangos, but you can definitely use frozen mango chunks if you'd like.
- Milk: You can use any kind of milk in this recipe - regular dairy milk or your dairy free milk of choice works great.
- Ice Cream: If you are making the dessert version of this recipe, you can use regular vanilla ice cream or use your favorite vegan vanilla ice cream. You could also make it with mango ice cream for the ultimate mango flavor punch! If you're making the healthy smoothie version, replace the ice cream with milk.
- Vanilla: this is totally optional! I like to add a touch of real vanilla extract to my milkshake but feel free to skip this if you want.
- Salt: you know that after-taste that fresh mangos sometimes have? It's hard to describe, almost a dryness or bitterness. Adding just a pinch of salt to fresh mango eliminates that and brings out the sweetness. This ingredient is optional.
Step By Step Instructions
This is an extremely simple recipe and there are pretty much two steps to it.
To make a Mango Milkshake:
STEP ONE: Add ice cream, mango chunks, milk, salt, and vanilla (if using) to a high powered blender.
STEP TWO: Blend. That's it! Now top with whipped cream if desired and enjoy!
To make a Mango Smoothie:
STEP ONE: Add mango, milk, salt, and vanilla extract (if using) to a blender. Add a scoop of protein powder, chia seeds, or hemp seeds if desired.
STEP TWO: Blend and enjoy!

This mango milkshake can easily be made vegan! It's been tested with vegan milk and vegan ice cream, as well as regular dairy milk and ice cream.
Well, milkshakes, by definition, aren't healthy. Milkshakes are made with ice cream, but if you want to make it healthier you can easily swap out the ice cream for milk, and sweeten it with a little maple syrup if desired.
I personally love to use oat milk in my milkshakes, as I find it to be extra creamy. This milkshake has been tested with regular milk, almond milk, and soy milk as well, but any milk will work great with this recipe!
I know it seems strange, but a little bit of salt (like just a pinch) cuts the dry after-taste that some fresh mangos can leave on your tongue. It also brings out the sweetness!
In my opinion, a milkshake is so much better with whipped cream on top! For vegan options, I like use either homemade coconut whipped cream (this is my go-to recipe) or a store bought version in a tub or a can. The flavors of coconut and mango go so well together too!
You can also top it with regular (not vegan) whipped cream, or even add another scoop of ice cream on top!
Mangos can be tricky to slice and cube sometimes! This video tutorial shows a few cool hacks for how to easily slice mangos.

Expert Tips
- Use a high powdered blender if possible - this helps give the milkshake a nice smooth consistency, especially if you're using frozen mango, which can be harder to break up.
- Chill the mango before blending - this is totally optional, but if your mangos were at room temperature and you want the smoothie to be extra cold and refreshing, you can chop up the mango, then cover it and refrigerate until it's cold. But if you keep your mangos in the fridge they will already be cold when you slice them.
- Add more milk or ice cream to adjust consistency - if you want your milkshake to be more on the thick side, add the milk in slowly until it reaches the thickness desired. If it seems like it needs more milk, add more!
- Add more mango if needed - if you accidentally add too much milk, feel free to add more mango to the milkshake!
- Taste as you go - the great thing about shakes and smoothies is how easy they are to customize, so feel free to taste as you go. If the milkshake needs a bit more sweetness, add another scoop of ice cream. Keep in mind the milkshake will be sweeter if you use a sweetened variety of vegan milk instead of unsweetened.
