Crazy winds

Need a day pass and camping pass. Too much money for too little. No hookups, trashy. Winds in evening almost made me leave site. Chairs and equipment will blow away. There are two entrances to this area, second one from Colorado Springs is much easier access.

Amazing views and privacy

The views from this campsite are amazing all around. Depending on the exact site it feels private and doesn’t have as many people around. The only downside are the bathrooms. They are veryyyyyy buggy but there is also a park center close by that has really nice bathrooms and showers

The good and bad

Stayed in Witcher’s cove yesterday. It’s on the back side of the park down a very long rough dirt road. WC had a amazing view of the lake, 2 restrooms (pit toilet no water), picnic tables and fire pits but be aware there is NO tree coverage for shade. I’m a lobster now lol.

The park office has a shower and there is also a store at the boat ramp across from it.

Daily parking is $9 self service

Most beautiful site

Out of my many years of camping experience This is the perfect site if you love the mountains but want a lake day. Take a canoe, kayak, or fishing poles and enjoy a day on the lake with a great view of the mountains. Very memorable trip!

Wide open spaces

This was my first camping experience and I was not disappointed. The facilities were wonderful and the view was incredible. Many of the lots had very little shade coverage so just be sure to bring plenty of shade tents. The lake was the perfect place to cool off so bring your bathing suit too!

Nice Campground- Close Proximity to World-class Fly Fishing

This is not exactly our type of campground, which is the only reason I give it 3 out of 5 stars.  It is a little too exposed to sun and wind (see pics), but there are some sites that are tucked away a little more comfortably than others.  I suggest looking at a site map before choosing your campsite.  Unfortunately, I cannot remember which loops are more tucked away than others.

The best thing about this campground to us was it's close proximity to two VERY good fly fishing locations:  the Dream Stream and Eleven Mile Canyon sections of the South Platte River.  I posted some short videos and pics of these two nearby fishing locations.  This campground sits right between them, so it is a short drive to either one.

This park is very clean and well maintained.  The facilities are modern and clean.  The staff is very helpful.

Just got back from 3 nights at the Stoll Mountain campground. Our 2 kids and 2 dogs had a great time exploring the shoreline and fishing. Facilities were clean, rangers were friendly and helpful. Only complaint were the bugs, but might just be the time of year. Will visit again soon!

Dirt, washboard roads are killer

We drove a 22' TT to the far side of this reservoir, following CO98. It was a newbie mistake and I'm posting this to warn others. The drive was beautiful, but once we got to the far side of the spillway, the road became awful. Total washboard and it shook our truck and camper so hard we were relegated to driving under 5mph. We stopped at a campsite for a break. The lake was stunning! The water was a blue that was striking. The north side of the lake was appeared to be protected by the cliffs and I would have enjoyed seeing that area, but by the time we made it back to Highway 24, I was never so happy to turn onto a highway. At that point I swore I'd never go back~ but after reading other reviews, maybe for a day trip. The side road to highway 24 was also in bad condition with major washouts. Driver BEWARE. We had to reattach lights, doors, drawers (yes, all of those things were shaken off, it was that bad).

Views!

We spent one night here and were very impressed.  It was early in the week, mid September so the park sites were pretty empty for tent campers.  There were a few late arrival big rigs though they did not really bother us.  Bear country, for sure.  Though we did not see any, it felt like we were on the edge.  This was probably due to the signage everywhere.  Bathrooms were ok, not the best but i think that is probably due to staying right after a busy weekend.  Stay in the top sights, rocky ridge.  Found a nice flat spot for our RTT.

Beautiful and remote

If you don't like driving on washboard dirt roads, this isn't the campground for you as all roads in are dirt. We camped in the Witcher's cove campground in September. The campground was not crowded during the week but got busy Friday through the weekend. This is a beautiful place to camp and is perfect for fishing, kayaking, and other water activities but not great for hiking. The campground is not well maintained in that fire rings are full of ash and garbage, tables are dirty, and bathrooms are not cleaned. We only saw a ranger go through the campground 1 time during our stay. The lack of rangers may be a seasonal issue but it resulted in many campers not following rules which can compromise the experience of others. The campground is windy so keep your canopies weighted or don't use them.

Backcountry at 11 Mile is a unique tent camping experience.

Backcountry campground at 11 mile reservoir is a really unique camping area and I think it has the most scenic campsites in all of 11 Mile. It’s not a very long hike from the parking lot to the backcountry sites but if your stuff is heavy you can usually pay someone to haul your gear over on a boat because most of the backcountry sites are close to the water. At all of the places I’ve camped at 11 Mile, the afternoon’s are very windy but from early morning to midday it was very calm. The wind was really annoying. There are bear bins in the backcountry campground. The rest of the campgrounds at 11 mile seem crowded and lacking privacy and shade.

When it rains, it pours.

I had read some reviews that weren’t thrilled with Eleven Mile State Park and I was interested to see what it was like. Our visit this weekend was amazing, even with some much needed rainstorms during a crazy Colorado fire season. We stayed in the D loop at Rocky Ridge campground and had great view of the lake and surrounding mountains. All of the campgrounds were fairly full but the place was clean and folks were friendly! There were plenty of laughing and playing kids and that made the Mrs. and I smile.

Several big thunderstorms reeked some havoc on some trailer canopies and tent campers but the rain was so badly needed it was actually enjoyable. The Midland Loop hike was great and perfect for kids and dogs. The views of the park from the hiking trail were great. It was a great place to visit.

Super fun!

The campsites here are really cool, mixed in between really rugged rocks and lake shore. We got a spot a little further off from the lake, but we were able to climb on the big rocks and hike around the outskirts. Our spot was close to the convenience store where we were able to rent a boat for the day and go out on the lake. The spot was able to accommodate a small A-line camper and a tent just fine. Not the most private camp spots but everyone around was so friendly.

Great Family get away. Serene and secluded.

The Park itself earns a 3.5 - 4 stars.  However, hike in or boat in site 914 earns 5 stars or more if possible.  The hike in was about a mile in total.  about 100 yds through a marsh patch.  the rest of the hike was simply beautiful, a shaded path leads to many hike in sites and a few that could be boat in.  Definitely not a path for bikes, if you take em you will end up leaving them at your vehicle in the parking lot.  Probably a 3.5/5 for difficulty getting there through the trail.  We also had a small pontoon that we used to get our gear to the site which was literally right up against the water.  The sound of the waves at night with a campfire was just perfect.  If you are just walking in plan on maybe one cooler between two people and some hiking packs fro your gear unless you want to make numerous trips.  Other than that its a great site and will definitely book it again.

Overcrowded, dirty, and too busy to be relaxing!

This has the potential to be a great campground as it is in a beautiful location. But the vault toilets are too few and too far in between and are the dirtiest I have ever used. The staff are unfriendly and no rules around quiet hours seemed to be enforced as you could hear generators running most of the night. To top all of that off, the site was $25 a night for no hookups, which is reasonable, but you are charged $9 a day on top of that for a day use permit and threatened with a $100 fine if you don’t get one. Clearly, this is a campground that is overworked and Colorado is trying to reduce traffic by making it unpleasant!

Water front but no shade

Great to be so close to the water, paddling, kayaking and fishing are popular activities. Unfortunately, majority (if not all) of the spots have little to no shade and it gets pretty hot. It was also very windy when we were there. Overall a pretty decent spot, I’ve read some glowing reviewing about the back country campground here so that may be the place to try out.

Great views, bring a boat!

Camp sites were nice enough,  narrow road in the campground but can fit some bigger rigs. One the higher/highest campgrounds so you get some great views of the reservoir. Nearly everyone has a boat, crowded shorelines on the weekend. Rocky Ridge A has electric but is pretty much in the parking lot of the visitor center, no privacy. One dump line was long, requires unlocking from ranger, no water hookup for rinsing.

Beautiful Campgrounds and Clean air

Eleven Mile Lake State Park is one of those incredible post card type places. The lake itself is created by a dammed stream and a canyon. The feat of engineering to build this dam was a marvel considering the years it was constructed. The lake has an eerie history of towns that were wiped out in creating this that now reside at the bottom of the lake. The reason it was dammed was to provide water to Denver and other municipalities.

The Campgrounds: 325 campsites in nine separate campgrounds scattered around the lake. From basic and walk in sites to electric or lakeshore sites, there is something for every camping style.

Rocky Ridge Campground loop has the only electric sites in the state park, and not each site has electric.

Stoll Mountain, Cross Creek, Lazy Boy, Rocking Chair, Howbert Point, and Witcher's Cove Campgrounds are lakeside campgrounds that experience more of the weather and do not have any electrical hookups.

There are 14 Back country sites that are more secluded in the wooded peninsula.

They have Dry Dumpstations and water stations to fill water as well. We used our water bladder to bring water to the RV.

Coin-Operated Showers - Showers are open 23 hours a day, closing daily for cleaning between 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Flush Toilets- Flush toilets are available from May 1 through September 30 each year.

Laundry Facility

There is a lot of wildlife here and black bears so keep your trash contained and put it in the proper dumpsters.

Cellular: While we were here in 2018 we had T-Mobile and AT&T, neither worked well. We would drive into a nearby town to get service and check messages.

We enjoyed our time camping here a lot, it was nice to unplug and be disconnected from society. There were some occasional storms which were a little unnerving because we are fulltime RVers and try not to put our RV at too much risk. We have a weather radio and it was able to alert us when warnings came in. It was windy most of the days we were there (July), and still nice and chilly at night. During the day the highest it got up to was about 75 degrees.

This is at a higher elevation so if you are sensitive to higher altitudes, follow precautions for altitude sickness as needed.

Beautiful reservoir but no privacy

The reservoir is fun to explore on paddle boards, and many of the sites have views of the water. You can pick up ice and other basics at the marina, and there is a dump station with two sides so the line moves pretty quickly.

The downside is that campground is not particularly clean, and the campsites have zero shade and zero privacy. They are set really close together.

Good fishing, that's it.

I am not a lover of Eleven Mile.  The wind factor due to the lack of trees is probably my biggest issue with Eleven Mile.  The views at sunset are nice I would not put it down as a place to return.  I think of it more as a mans' type of place than some place I'd recommend.  I was uncomfortable, fighting off bugs, covering my mouth from dirt from the wind, from vehicles coming in and out of fishing and parking lot area.  Took kayaks out on the water and it was not a smooth ride either, nonetheless sharing experiences with loved ones and friends was the best part, still...   nearby family has a PC. Of land and we all spent a couple of days there.  Half of the time it was spent inside campers due to the rough, high winds.  The area is wide open.  I prefer trees.  The bugs are just an added irritant.  I have long hair and I had to keep it up which was a bit of a hassle if it came out of my hat or bandanas.  The fishing is awesome, if you keep at it.  The wind factor obviously plays a big part in casting a lot and often.  Don't like tangled lines myself so it is just not the place for me.  If driving through, in the evening, it can be pretty and one might do well to take their camera.  Take a bonnet, sun tan lotion and bug repellent for sure.  It is open space and you can see for quite some distance.overall not my type of fishing or camping spot.  A motorized boat is best instead of a canoe or kayak for sure due to the winds and choppiness of the water.

Beautiful scenery but miserable experience

Rooftop tent camped here for one night since it was on the way from and to our next destination during our camping road trip in Colorado. And also because based on my research, the (shore) fishing is good. Was here on a weekday so park was quite empty, with the exception of a few neighbors a few sites away. There were a few other shore anglers but no one caught anything as far as we can tell. We got nothing either which wasn’t a big deal since fishing wasn’t a priority. While the views are breath taking, the gazillion of bugs, howling winds & stinky pit toilets made it a miserable experience for us. Every time there was a strong gust of wind, which was like every minute or 2, we could smell the toilet. I’ve done a lot of primitive camping and I usually don’t mind vault toilets, but this one was just atrocious! I mean, it was as if they haven’t checked up on it in years. The bugs, although didn’t bite, were swarming everywhere! It was so bad we skipped cooking dinner and opted to eat trail mix in our vehicle instead. Like I mentioned, absolutely gorgeous scenery but the bugs, winds and smelly toilets made me never want to return again.

Great for RV

Pros: -lots of level, well maintained sites -huge lake, great for fishing or boating -electrical hookups for RV camping Cons: -minimal shade and sites are close together -bathroom/shower are at the entrance (a considerable distance from most sites) -not a ton of great hiking areas. Bottom line if you’re an RV camper and an angler definitely a decent spot. If you’re a tent camper and hiker check elsewhere.

Lake in the middle of a desert

The campground was well maintained, but the sites were so close together. Getting from loop E to the water was a trek. We tried 3 water spigots before we found one that worked. The bathrooms were well maintained. It was very beautiful sunsets. Lots of trash in the res though. It seems as if people just don’t care about their surroundings. We only saw 1 fish jump out while we were there so fishing was pretty lackluster.
