Africa & Middle East

In Africa, ICCT supports national regulators to advance clean vehicles and fuels agendas in Southern and Western African countries, with a specific interest in South Africa and Nigeria. South Africa is the largest new vehicle market in the world and is home to the largest number of vehicle manufacturing companies in the continent, while Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa. Cost and benefit analyses and other regulatory support for heavy-duty vehicles is provided in both countries. South Africa has also been the focus of ICCT work on fuel efficiency standards for light-duty passenger vehicles, and technical analyses supporting a transition to zero-emission bus fleets in South African cities.
