Thame

About Thame
Welcome to the Thame edition of The Oxford Magazine.
Thame is a market town and civil parish in Oxfordshire, about 13 miles east of the city of Oxford. It derives its toponym from the River Thame which flows along the north side of the town. In its distant past, it was a fortified town in the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Wessex.
Thame was granted a market charter in 1215, and markets have been held there since that time. Be here on Tuesdays for what may arguably be Oxfordshire’s best outdoor market, likened to an outdoor delicatessen, with local fruit and vegetables, cakes, chutneys and a host of other home-made delights.
The town is one of the most frequently used filming locations for Midsomer Murders, the popular ITV series. And today, traditional market town amenities like butchers, bakers, tea rooms and pubs sit alongside posher boutiques and eateries – making it a very comfortable place to pass a few hours.
