DES MOINES — The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch, in effect from Wednesday morning through Friday evening.
Air temperatures are expected to be in the mid to upper 90s, with dew point temperatures in the mid to upper 70s, creating heat index values of 105-115.
An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures in expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
The NWS warns that excessive heat could lead to severe heat-related illnesses and possibly death if proper action is not taken. The public is encouraged to drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun if at all possible. Remaining in an air-conditioned room is advised, and the public is reminded to check up on relatives and neighbors and not to leave pets and/or children in unattended vehicles.
