Crust Bikes Stupid Tourist Review: Big City Dreams, Small Wheels

Last year, when we visited Crust Bikes Australia, we took a look at Matt’s bike stable and teased the Stupid Tourist. The Stupid Tourist is a mini velo with 20″ wheels and Ritchey Break-Away couplers for all your travelin’ needs. Spencer dreamed of such a bike many years ago and wondered why it took so long for someone actually to make one. He was lucky enough to pack a Stupid Tourist for his trip to Bike Kill and Nutmeg Country last fall. Read on for all his tinker tantrums and insights into this unique travel bike…

John Lost the Bet! Crust Nor’Easter Bike Check

Well… John lost the bet with Miguel. The Radavist YouTube broke 10k subscribers in late December. To honor the bet, John will be racing a gravel race with Miguel, Lost & Found.

Since this is “RACE METAL,” John wanted to build an all-metal bike, so he finally got his Crust Bikes Nor’Easter rolling with a neo-retro build kit.

Thanks for subscribing to our channel and we’ll see ya at Lost & Found!

Crust Bikes Heartbreaker Cranks are in Stock

Inspired by the Sugino-made Ritchey Logic cranks from the 90s, the Crust Bikes forged aluminum Heartbreaker Cranks ($260) is the brand’s take on a slim-arm compact double crankset. These slim arm profile cranks have a high offset, which allows you to run a shorter bottom bracket than with most square taper cranks. This is a huge plus with 73mm shells and wide chainstays, allowing you to keep the cranks closer to the frame.  The cranks come with a set of bolts and self-extractor caps, are available in four colors, including silver and a wild anodized splatter, and are in 170 mm lengths only at the moment.

Specs:

  • Made in Taiwan
  • Forged Aluminum
  • Color- Polished, Black, Brown, or Splash
  • Outer Chainring BCD- 110×5
  • Inner Chainring BCD- 74×5
  • Bottom Bracket Compatibility- JIS Square Taper (Length will vary depending on the bike, but 110-113mm is a good place to start.)
  • Lengths- 170mm
  • Tooth Count- 42/26t
  • Weight- 702g (Complete Crankset with Bolts and Extractors Installed)

The Crust Bikes Bombora is Back in Matte Clear

The Crust Bikes Bombora is Back in Matte Clear

The Crust Bikes Bombora ($1,125) is a steel chassis with versatility in mind. Call it an all-rounder, S24O chariot, or a gravel bike. It fits big, fat tires, but it is not a mountain bike. It uses a 68 mm bottom bracket shell, is non-boost spaced, and made from an ultralight tubeset. It is a sportier version of the heavy-duty Evasion touring bike with 27.5″ wheels.

It is designed around a 650b/ 27.5″ wheel with a 2.3″ max tire size. Think about it as a “plus” size tire gravel bike. Crust wanted to keep the tube set light to keep the ride quality opulent and snappy. It’s perfect for all forms of roads, but don’t go smashing down a rocky jeep trail on it. Enjoy the cushioned, billowy ride quality instead.

New for 2025, the Crust Bombora comes with a new “matte clear” finish and the updated Crust cable guides. Check it out at Crust Bikes!

Crust Bikes Boost Spaced Evasion Trail 140 is a Step Through Bike Inspired by the Honda Trail 90

While John was visiting Crust Bikes in Australia on a work trip – ok, he was surfing mostly – Matt shared with him a pet project of his: the Evasion Trail 140 ($1,175). We already shared the prototype build but these frames are in stock now at Crust Bikes. This bike is a product of Matt’s affinity for the mighty Postie Bike aka the Honda Trail 90 (or 110). In short, the Evasion Trail is exactly what it looks like: an Evasion rear end welded to a longer step thru front end, making it more compatible with a flat, riser, alt, townie, or whatever-you-call-it kind of bar.

This wild version of the Evasion is also mountain bike boost-spaced on the front and rear of the bike. While you could finagle drops on it, it’s designed for flat bars.

Crust Bikes New EPO is a (Dope) US-Made Road Frame

Crust Bikes New EPO is a (Dope) US-Made Road Frame

Crust Bikes‘ latest model, the EPO ($2100 frameset), is a US-Made road frame, built from Italian steel. Or perhaps its 38 mm max tire clearance makes it an All-Road bike, right? Who knows anymore? Anyway, the EPO is built by Darren Larkin in Connecticut in very small batches.

It’s made up of an assortment of the finest Columbus steel available. The Italian tubes provide a ride quality that will have you wanting to push this bike like you’ve been juiced up and are breaking away in the ’99 Tour de France. Each frame comes paired up with an ENVE AR Disc Fork to match the frame’s tire clearance and keep the front end light and nimble.

If you’re an AXS devotee, the EPO is available with or without shifter housing guides. Check out more at Crust Bikes.

Crust Bikes Has a Size Large Chunk Frameset in Stock in the USA

The Chunk frame, a made-in-Japan fillet brazed cruiser-inspired modern mountain bike by Crumbworks in Japan, caught our eyes when it was announced last year. These bikes feature non-boost spacing, thru-axles, and disc brakes, designed for dirt riding and touring. If you live in the USA, ordering one from Japan is expensive, but Crust Bikes brought in a few frames from Crumbworks and now only a size large remains. Available in raw for the paint finish of your choice or run it raw for $2,100. Check out more at Crust Bikes.

Readers’ Rides: Liz’s Ron’s Crust Bikes Alumalith Decked Out With Paul Components!

Today we’ve got a special Readers’ Rides. While John was in Chico eating all of Travis’ vegan snacks at Paul Component Engineering, he documented Liz’s Alumalith, which Paul had just finished building. Liz is Paul’s partner, and she had her eye on a Ron’s Crust Bikes Alumalith. So Paul built her one, and it’s wild. Read on for some words by Paul himself about the bike…

Crust Bikes 650b Wheels

At $525, the Crust Rim Brake Wheels are an ideal option for your 650b QR bike. They were designed with 42-48 mm tires in mind, are double walled for durability, but slimmed down where they can be to keep them as light as possible. For rear spacing, there are two options: 130 mm and 135mm. The driver in each rear hub has 3 pawls with 3 teeth each that provide a nice, crisp engagement. You can also choose between a dynamo with Shutter Precision for $100 more or non-dynamo front wheel.
