As the sun goes down, the zoo lights up and you can take an enchanting stroll around the impressive light installations. Some of the enclosures will even be illuminated so you might get a glimpse of the animals snuggled up for the night! Purchase a general admission ticket and enter before 5pm to enjoy Zooluminate as well!
Calling all animals lovers to Dartmoor Zoo! It's time to take the whole family and spend a wild day amongst some magnificent animals. From incredibly fast Cheetah's to slow and steady Giant Land Snails, there are so many amazing creatures to get up close to and discover more about.
Explore the massive 33 acres of beautiful parkland, and the impressive number of animals such as the biggest cat collection in the South West, and over 250 animals in total!
While you're there, enjoy refreshments at the restaurant or café, or bring a picnic and make the most of the beautiful outdoor space on a summer's day. For the little ones, there is a children's play area made completely of upcycled materials! Dartmoor Zoological Society is a charity, meaning that animal care and conservation is at the heart of everything they do. The wonderful zookeepers work hard to maintain a space where both animals and humans feel respected and safe, making this an amazing environment to spend a day with your family.
To get the most out of your visit to Dartmoor Zoo, check out some of the daily animal talks hosted by the knowledgeable zookeepers who will give you a look behind the scenes of how the animals live at the zoo. These take place daily at intervals listed on their website so make sure to check that out before you arrive.

General Information
- You're welcome to bring a picnic with you during your visit to Dartmoor Zoo. There is a large picnic area surrounded by big cats!
- Baby changing facilities are located in our Jaguar Restaurant toilet area.
- If you wish to visit your car, please let a member of staff know at the entrance gate before you leave for re-entry.
- All smoking (including but not limited to cigarettes, pipes (including water pipes such as shisha and hookah pipes), cigars, herbal cigarettes and e-cigs/e-cigarettes) is strictly prohibited in or near the following locations; animal enclosures, animal demonstration areas, covered spaces or buildings, food or drink outlets and picnic areas.
- Children can let off some stream on the upcycled materials children's play areas. Parents and guardians are required to supervise children in their care at all times.
- The majority of Dartmoor Zoo is accessible for wheelchair users and those with walking difficulties. Please note that whilst nearly all of the Zoo is accessible to wheelchairs and buggies, it is quite rugged and some of our paths are very steep. Caution should be exercised, and the team are ready to help when you need - just ask.
Booking and Ticket Information
- When you buy online you will receive an email containing your ticket. Please present on your smart phone on arrival on the day of your visit, alternatively you can print and bring with you.
- Children under 3 go free but do require a ticket.
- Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.
- Saving based off walk up rate.
- Picniq accept all debit cards, Maestro, Visa and Mastercard as methods of payment. There is no credit card charge or booking fee.
- Online bookings are limited to a maximum of 12 visitors.
- Tickets purchased through Picniq are not refundable. The date of the visit can be amended for a fee of £10 per booking. Terms and conditions apply.

Arriving from the A38
If you're arriving from the A38, take the Deep Lane turn off signed for Plympton, follow the signs for 'Wildlife Park' from the roundabout at Chaddlewood. This will take you past Langage Business Park to Sparkwell village, which we are just on the far side of.
Arriving from Plympton
Continue on the B3416 towards the Chaddlewood roundabout, then go straight ahead and follow the signs to Sparkwell. Once you get to Sparkwell, drive through the village and you'll find us approximately 300 yards further on.
Rail: The closest national train station is at Plymouth. There is a direct service from London Paddington to Plymouth, which takes approximately 3 hours. From the NorthEast there is a direct train service from Edinburgh. From the West you can change at Birmingham or Bristol for the Plymouth line.
Plymouth Railway Station is approximately 0.5 mile to the Royal Parade for the number 59 bus stop. Alternatively, there is a good taxi service directly outside the station.
The closest local train station is at Ivybridge. There is a good taxi service which can take you to the Zoo.
Bus: Route 59 operates from Monday to Saturday. There is no service on Sundays and bank holidays. The 59 leaves Royal Parade (stop A13) in Plymouth City Centre takes around 30 minutes, stopping at Sparkwell village and then right outside the zoo entrance. It takes approximately 45 minutes in the opposite direction from the George Park and Ride outside of Plymouth. You
You should arrive at the zoo entrance bus stop at least five minutes early for your return journey. From time to time, the service will run slightly ahead of schedule, pass the zoo stop and then wait in Sparkwell village.
Normal opening: 7 days/week, 10am - 4pm, Last entry is 1.5 hours before close.
Extended summer opening hours: from 22nd July to 3rd September 2023, 10am - 5pm
Closed: 24 - 26th December
