Whipsnade zoo, the biggest zoo in the UK, and is set in 600 acres of beautiful countryside and has over 10,000 fantastic animals to discover, including elephants, rhinos, tigers, lions, cheetahs, hippos, brown bears and giraffes, offering a completely wild day out for the whole family.

The zoo is a great day out with the family, there is so much space to roam and explore, and it really is a fun-packed day out.

A firm favourite is the residents of the Penguin pool, here you will find African black-footed penguins alongside the Rockhopper! The pool has stunning views of the Chilton Downs. If you want to discover the underwater worlds, then the Zoo's Aquarium will not disappoint. If you want to turn the temperature up then a visit to the tropical Butterfly House will see you surrounded by hundreds of colourful beauties.

 In 2021 a magnificent (over 7,800m² ), new Hullabazoo outdoor play area was opened. So when the kids need a break from meeting all of the wildlife, they can burn off their excess energy. Fantastic themed areas with bridges, swings, climbing frames, tunnels, sand play and even a mini safari jeep will keep them amused, whilst the grown-ups take on some refreshments from the café.

There are a number of choices across the zoo when it comes to picking up and taking on some refreshments, including; Base Camp Restaurant, Base Camp BBQ (summer only), Fish & Chip Van, Visitor Centre Café, Station Store Picnic Shop, Africa Outpost and Hullabazoo Café. With not a single use plastic bottle in sight!

Important Information

• Whipsnade Tickets are available to purchase online up to 11AM on the day of your intended visit.
• Picniq accepts all debit cards, Maestro, Visa and Mastercard as methods of payment. There is no credit card charge or booking fee.
• Children under 3 go free.
• When you buy online, please print off your eTicket as you will need this upon arrival at Whipsnade Zoo.
• Online bookings are limited to a maximum of 12 visitors.
• Please note that parking charges do apply, although free car parking is available opposite this attraction.
• Tickets purchased through Picniq are not refundable. The date of the visit can be amended for a fee of £10. Terms and conditions apply.

Directions

From the M1, exit on to the A5 and follow signs for Studham/Kensworth. The zoo is well signposted around the area.

Opening Times

Whipsnade Zoo is open every day of the year with the exception of Christmas Day. The zoo opens at 10am every day and closing times vary depending on the season. Please check Whipsnade Zoo Visitor information for the lastest closing times.
