AHMEDABAD: More than 130 people who suffered food poisoning were admitted at Civil Hospital in Asarwa and VS Hospital in Paldi late on Sunday night. Hospital authorities claim that the patients complained of vomiting and diarrhoea after consuming kheer at a religious gathering near Dilli Darwaza. Of these, some 85 people were admitted at Civil Hospital.
M M Prabhakar, medical superintendent, Civil Hospital, Asarwa, said, “Some 52 men and women along with 33 children have been admitted at our hospital.
Most of them complained of vomiting and diarrhoea while some of them reported a dip in blood pressure. However, all of them are in a stable condition and will be discharged after keeping them under observation.” “A couple of hours after I had kheer, which was given as prasaad at the gathering, I had continuous vomiting and loose motion. I got admitted around midnight and soon after doctors gave me ORS and other tablets,” said Shakuntala Parmar, a 45-year-old resident of Dariapur.
The relative of another patient, Shazia Banu, said, “Shazia had severe nausea in the middle of the night that she was nearly unconscious. Doctors got her Sonography done and are checking her reports. They said if her reports are normal, she will be discharged soon.” Some 47 patients including 10 children were also admitted at VS Hospital.
“Most of them were admitted after 10pm on Sunday and their condition is now stable. Patients were given treatment for gastrointestinal disturbances and in some cases drip was administered. There were no critical cases reported. Some of them were discharged and the rest will be discharged soon,” said Kuleep Joshi, resident medical officer, VS Hospital.
