NEW DELHI: Hindu College on Tuesday said a committee will examine a request by the Delhi University Students' Union (Dusu) for a review of the rustication of nine students for"indiscipline" during the student union elections a month ago.
A delegation led by Aparajita, secretary of ABVP-led Dusu, met principal Anju Srivastava in this regard, following which the college issued a notice.
"In view of the representation received from Dusu representatives, a committee has been constituted to look into their request. The committee shall meet on November 1,"the notice stated.
The matter will be reviewed by the disciplinary resource committee of the college, according to its convenor, Professor Rameshwar Rai.
In September, some students had staged a hunger strike over the rejection of about 30 student nominations for the positions of 'prime minister' and 'central councillors' at the college. At Hindu College, the head of the students' union is referred to as 'prime minister' instead of 'president'.
The college had cited low attendance as the reason for the cancellation of nominations and ordered an inquiry after it was alleged that the students did not allow principal Srivastava to exit her office.
Demanding immediate revocation of the rustication, the Dusu said in a statement: "After more than one and a half month, Hindu College authorities have given this notice, which is nothing but a suppression of the democratic rights of the students."
