HYDERABAD: Telangana government on Friday alleged that
Andhra Pradesh has utilised 205 tmc ft of excess water than their allocated share from Krishna.
The state government said that even going by the 34:66 ratio between Telangana and AP, the latter had utilised 51 tmc ft more water.
In a letter to Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on Friday, Telangana irrigation engineer-in-chief C Muralidhar said that while AP used excess water, Telangana had saved water out of its entitlement by efficient utilisation for usage in lean months.
“Since Telangana does not have exclusive offline storages, it kept the remaining 18 tmc ft of its share in the common reservoir Nagarjuna Sagar for the purpose of drinking water and irrigation requirements in early months of 2023 fiscal. The Telangana government also informed the same,” Muralidhar said.
The government said excess utilisation should be accounted against AP’s share.
Irrigation officials said that AP had raised an indent for five tmc ft of water from Nagarjuna Sagar towards drinking water requirenent for July 2023.
“But the Board has to note that there were no inflows into Nagarjuna Sagar and the water was from the savings of Telangana,” the ENC said.
