KANNUR: The CPM has said that the social media rumours that party state committee member and senior leader P Jayarajan would join the BJP are absolutely baseless and the people would reject such fake news aimed at tarnishing the party.
At the same time the party workers should be vigilant against such fake news, said the party district secretariat in a statement on Friday.

Unlike the print and electronic media the social media is totally different, as there is no control over them, said the party leadership and hence the party workers should be vigilant, said the leadership.
The party issued the official statement a day after P Jayrajan filed a police complaint after the rumours had been spreading in the social media for the last couple of days.
In the complaint to Kannur DSP on September 12, Jayarajan had said that the fake news items were spread in the social media with the logo of the BJP’s television channel ‘Janam’. He also alleged that the some Sangh Parivar groups and Muslim extremist groups are behind this.
In some posts spreading via the social media, his photograph along with that of BJP chief Amit Shah had appeared while another said he was joining the BJP as he was unable to continue in the party that has lost its ideology. Some posts even said he would accept the membership from the party leadership in Delhi and he would contest in the BJP ticket from Kannur or Thalassery in the next Assembly election.

In the complaint he said the fake news items are being circulated to tarnish him as well as the CPM.
In his Facebook post Jayarajan clarified this and said we should not forget the way he was brutally attacked on an Onam twenty years back. It is on yet another Onam day that the fake news is being spread, he said.
However the BJP leadership is yet to respond to the issue though the district leadership said they have not held any kind of discussion with the CPM leader.
