O.K. so no bulls^& here. This is rusty and has some pitting. You should be able to put it on a mandrel between centers and clean it up. But I can't promise all the pitting will come out before you loose the lines and numbers. It is the direct reading dial though and it should fit both the cross feed and compound if you have the proper extended bushing(I made one for my machine) You pays a little money. Old style 9 inch South Bend Lathe Quick Change Gearbox
This quick change gearbox is off the older style of South Bend 9 inch lathes. These are sometimes referred to as the“wide bed” type. I am including the complete banjo and the lead screw gear. The gears inside the box have all their teeth but are worn. Defects: The arrows in the second picture point to holes that have been plugged and redrilled and areas that have been milled back in an attempt to fit it onto a newer model lathe. The holes could be repaired and spacers used to fill the missing area. The gears on the banjo and the bull gear on the box have some chipped and missing teeth that would need to be brazed up or replaced. The lower change handle has an old brazed repair, but it looks solid and shouldn’t be a problem. I’m selling this as is, NO RETURNS, any questions contact me before you bid. This is a"Model A" which designates options, rather than overall model/ type. As I understand it Bed length 3-1/2 feet. 22" between centers. There is some bed wear- it is difficult for me to quantify it(I'm writing this in Reno. Nevada, for my girlfriend Zoe who is with the lathe in Michigan) There is some rust and pitting on the lathe in general. But nothing severe, as I recall. Quick-change threading/ feed gearbox. The carriage has half-nuts for right and left-hand threading. As well as power longitudinal and cross-feeds. Cuts screw threads from 4 to 224 per inch. Power longitudinal feeds from.0015" to.0853" per revolution. Power cross-feeds from.0004" to.0252" per revolution. Built-in chip pan on welded steel column base. Three storage drawers in base. The base does have some rust near the bottom. ... moreSix-speed. Two-stage belt drive. Wide V-belt on primary. Stapled/ stitched flat leather belt on the second stage. Back-geared for single point threading. Etc. Some chipped teeth on back gears- seems to work well. Regardless. The 120VAC induction motor is not original. It does not start. It is not seized. But it whines, smells bad and doesn't move more than a quarter turn when a start is attempted. Replacement or repair should be straight-forward. The original motor would have been 1/2HP. I don't know what this one is. Or even how many poles it has. The motor seems to be wired for forward-only operation. And may not be a reversible type. The lathe is being offered bare. Many accessories available, but to be negotiated separately and only to the buyer of the lathe. They will be sold individually on eBay eventually. If necessary. The lathe is in Franklin. LATHE-South Bend, model C - 9 inch swing
For Sale South Bend Lathe. Model C. 9 inch swing. Every thing works on lathe- including auto travel- comes with all cutting bits and tools. Leather drive belt is also included, but can be substituted with a rubber serpentine belt from the auto parts store, cut to size and overlapped/glued together with tire tube glue or joined with wire like the leather belt. 115v Motor is old and works fine but can also be substituted with another more modern motor. Lathe has a 3 and 1/2 foot bed. If you'GOOGLE' on the internet about the lathe, you can get more information about it. Lathe has been stored in a storage facility for 6 months now and has developed minor'surface rust' that can easily be polished off and re-oiled. Lathe also comes with three chucks. South Bend 9 Junior metal lathe 9 inch metal lathe
South Bend Lathe model 9 Junior from the 1930's. I bought this lathe about 5 years ago in hopes of learning to turn metal. I cleaned the lathe up. Painted the parts carefully,and added a craftsman reversible motor to replace the old motor which was dead. Then I ran it a couple of times to tinker around a bit. I have not, however, had the time to really dedicate to learning how to be proficient with this lathe so I have decided to sell it and regain some shop space. The lathe is in pretty good condition overall. It is missing one oil cup that was cracked when I got it. I removed the cup and made a removable oak plug that keeps the dirt out. New oil cups can be gotten from EBay for a couple dollars. The motor is reversible and the reversing switch is with the lathe but will have to be wired correctly to get reverse to work. The leather ... morebelt is in good condition but the drive shaft needs to be re-squared to the lathe to get it to run true. Although the belt works currently, it does not run entirely on the pulleys and will sometimes jump of under load. This is an easy repair. The gears and drive components are in good condition and worked well during the time I ran the lathe. Tooling appearing in the pictures is what is included with the lathe as is the way and spindle oil that I order specifically for thus lathe. The felt way wipers were new when I cleaned the lathe. I do not believe that this lathe has had more than 2 hours use since I put it together. I have a book on how to use the lathe that I will include as a bonus if I can locate it. This lathe is on a home built metal base with a hardwood top. The lathe will sell AS IS with LOCAL PICKUP only. I will not ship this item. It is located at Wyanet, IL 61379. I can help load the lathe. It is quite heavy. Please fell free to ask questions. I will answer the best that I can. I can hold for two weeks to get pickup arranged. If I come across any other tooling, it will be added as a bonus. What is there is what is included for sure.

WOOD WORKING TOOL REST FOR A SOUTH BEND 9 INCH OR 10K LATHE
This is for a wood turning tool rest for the 9 inch and 10k light 10 inch metal cutting lathe made by South Bend Lathe. I have only found this listed in one of the old parts list I have from the 1930s or early 1940s no.30-b. It attaches to the cross slide and replaces the compound rest. The tool rest are 4 inches and 12 inches long. Please see the pictures. This came in with a s/b 9 inch that was made in the mid thirties and was with the same family all that time. South Bend 9 Inch Lathe Milling Attachment
This is a milling attachment from a 9 inch South Bend Lathe. It is an original South Bend part and is stamped with their logo. Will also fit the light ten lathe and perhaps others. It appears to have been used very lightly. The machined surfaces and graduations all appear crisp. The jaws look good. Most of the original paint remains. What wear there is seems mostly from storage. Will need a little cleaning. I am not a machinist so I am describing this as best as I can. Questions and comments are welcome.
