My name is Tommy Donahue and I am an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University. I am from Strongsville, Ohio, where I graduated in the top 10% of my class. Currently, I am majoring in Business with a specialization in Accounting and minoring in Spanish. My career prospects include working for a public accounting firm as a Certified Public Accountant and to apply my knowledge of the Spanish language and culture with clients. This next summer I plan on studying abroad for two months in either Spain or Costa Rica to further enrich my language skills.
During high school, I was a 3-year varsity letter winner in swimming, however, I decided not to compete during my senior year to focus on my studies. Also, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes the summer before my junior year. I swam that year in our district tournament but realized by the end of the season that it was difficult to divide my time between swimming and school while adapting to my change in health. During my senior year, I was involved in the National Honor Society. I visited a retirement community weekly with a friend where we would talk with residents about their life experiences and hear them reminisce about their cherished memories. Outside of school, I managed the lifeguards at our neighborhood pool.
I am starting off my experience at Ohio State as a member of the Mount Leadership Society, which focuses on service and developing leaders for our diverse society. This is extremely fulfilling as I am part of a smaller family at OSU that is dedicated to helping those less fortunate. I am looking forward to the many service projects that we will complete throughout the year.
