UHPD Recognized by Harris County for National Night Out

The University of Houston Police Department was recognized with a Certificate of Recognition from Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo for their National Night Out efforts. The department was presented with the certificate during the National Night Out event. For UHPD Chief Ceaser Moore, the recognition is an indication of how involved UHPD is with the community.



Coffee with a Cop Fall Dates

Coffee with a Cop returns this semester at the Student Center South food court to provide the campus community members an opportunity to meet and talk with officers. This event has “no agenda or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the officers on your campus.” Attendees can get free coffee and baked goods while meeting the officers that keep them safe. The Coffee with a Cop Dates for 2025 will be scheduled soon!!



UHPD Holds First Badge Pinning Ceremony since 2019

The University of Houston Police Department held its first badge-pinning ceremony since 2019, with 21 officers being pinned. The department planned to hold a badge-pinning ceremony in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to those plans. The department has grown significantly since 2019, with new officers joining and others promoted to higher ranks. Read more about UHPD's badge-pinning ceremony.



Tips To Prevent Scooter Theft

The University of Houston Police Department shares tips to help prevent scooter thefts on campus. These include using a high-quality U-lock and registering your scooter and serial number through your MyParking account. Watch the video to learn more.



Catalytic converter thefts are up nationwide; UHPD has some prevention tips

Over the last several years, the theft of catalytic converters from under vehicles has been climbing nationwide. The University of Houston is not immune to this, so UHPD has worked with our local law enforcement partners to produce a video with some tips to help keep your vehicle safe.  

From engraving or painting your catalytic converter to aftermarket solutions, there are several ways you can reduce the chance that your vehicle is targeted. You can find these and other tips here. 

 



CRASE Training Dates for Fall Semester

UHPD has released fall dates for its CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) Training for students, staff, and faculty. The training course is designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, and Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004. Attendees can also expect discussions on the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills. UHPD SMS Texting Services
To use the UHPD texting service you must opt-in to the service. You do this by using the service.  When you send a text message to 713-743-3333 your message will pop up in a centralized dashboard at UHPD dispatch and be directed to an officer. The dashboard will allow the UHPD officer to communicate with you directly through the SMS texting service on your phone.  When your case has been resolved by the officer, the case will be closed, and you will receive a verification that it has been resolved.

UHPD Chief Ceaser Moore attended the World Police Summit 2024 in Dubai. The event served as a platform for creating new business opportunities and facilitating networking among leading minds in the industry. Conference attendees heard from law enforcement professionals from across the globe and had the opportunity to view the latest technological advancements in law enforcement. UHPD Officers Take Part in Crime Prevention Certification Program
UHPD departmental police supervisors (corporals, sergeants, lieutenants, captains, assistant chef and the chief) are obtaining a Basic Crime Prevention Certification from the American Crime Prevention Institute, the nation's leading authority in crime prevention training and education. UH Bike Registration
Students, faculty and staff who have a bicycle on campus are required to register it. Registration takes only minutes to complete and is free. A registration sticker will be provided and should be placed on the bicycle.

If the bicycle is ever lost or stolen, the University will have the serial number and other identifying information. If the bicycle is recovered, this information makes it much easier to return the bicycle to its rightful owner. Log in to your myParking account through AccessUH to register.
