Foreword: This book contains the proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Finance, Economics, Management and IT Business (FEMIB 2019) which was organized and sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and Co-organized by the University of Crete. The conference was technically co-sponsored by the ACM SIGMIS (The ACM Special Interest Group on Management Information Systems). We hope that these proceedings, which include areas like included areas like “Accounting and Finance”, “Economics”, “Management”, “IT Business” and “Emerging Areas in FEMIB” are interesting to a global audience of engineers, scientists and business people interested in the research topics of FEMIB. We believe the proceedings published demonstrate new and innovative solutions, and highlight challenging technical problems in each field. FEMIB received 43 paper submissions from 23 countries. To evaluate each submission, a double blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified researchers in FEMIB topic areas. Based on the classifications provided, 3 papers were selected as full papers. The conference was complemented with a shared special session entitled Inter-Disciplinary Research - IDR (chaired by Victor Chang, Robert Walters, Víctor Méndez Muñoz, Patricia Baudier, Ruijun Bu and Roger Hallman) the Meet the Editor Session: Journal of Knowledge Management and Journal of Intellectual Capital with the Editor-in-Chiefs Manlio Del Giudice (Journal of Knowledge Management) and Valentina Cillo (Journal of Intellectual Capital) and with the fourth edition of the High Quality Journal and Visionary Forum. We are proud to inform you that the program included also three plenary keynote lectures, given by internationally distinguished researchers, namely – Mike Papazoglou (Tilburg University, Netherlands), Manlio Del Giudice (University of Rome Link Campus, Italy) and a joint keynote between Muthu Ramachandran (Leeds Beckett University, United Kingdom) and Gary Wills (University of Southampton, United Kingdom). These talks contribute to increase the overall quality of the conference and to provide a deeper understanding of the conference interest fields. The number and high quality of the papers received imposed difficult choices in the review process. Each paper was reviewed by at least, two reviewers. Based on those reviews, papers that adequately balanced quality, originality and relevance to the conference themes were selected. The proceedings of FEMIB will be submitted for indexation by DBLP, Thomson-Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index, EI, SCOPUS, Semantic Scholar and Google Scholar. A set of papers will be selected and published in a special issue of the Expert Systems and another set of papers will be selected for the Journal of Knowledge Management. All presented papers will be available at the SCITEPRESS digital library. To recognize the best submissions and the best student contributions, awards based on the best combined marks of paper reviewing, as assessed by the Program Committee, and the quality of the presentation, as evaluated by the chairs at the conference venue, were conferred at the closing session of the conference. As a final point, we would like to express our thanks, first of all, to the authors of the technical papers, whose work and dedication made possible to put together a program that we believe is very exciting and of high technical quality. Next, we would like to thank all the members of the program committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and time. We would also like to thank the invited speakers for their invaluable contribution and for sharing their vision in their talks. Special thanks should be addressed to the INSTICC Steering Committee whose invaluable work made this event possible and finally, a word of appreciation for the hard work of the secretariat: organizing a conference of this level is a task that can only be achieved by the collaborative effort of a dedicated and highly capable team.
