VR Proves to be a Vital Partner in Arizona’s First Design-Build Public Sports Complex.
Parks and Recreation | Athletic Facilities
As the first Design-Build contract for a public sports facility in Arizona, the Avondale Youth Sports Complex included a signalized entrance and deceleration lane to bring traffic into the park safely from a high-speed curved alignment on McDowell Road. The entire project consisted of a 55-acre sports complex including nine soccer fields, two baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, dog park, sports lighting, asphalt parking lots, irrigation lagoon, restroom facilities and many park amenities. The project budget was originally under $5M, however, during preconstruction, Valley Rain developed the concept of using an existing abandoned well at the project site as an alternative water source. The City decided to invest additional funds up-front for well development and was able to save over $200,000 per year in water cost, paying back the entire additional project investment in less than three years.
