The condition is great with some noticeable signs of use and about 10 per cent disintegration on the grass weave. Most antique cannibal forks have total loss of grass weave. Samoan Tongan War Club Antique Pacific Island Oceanic at least 100 yrs old
A very old original Samoan or Tongan wood club from the 1800's. It appears well used with some lime residue and indentations of possibly having been bound with coir coconut string on the handle. It addition. It appears well weathered as if it sat out in the sun and got wet over time. It has nice chip carving and is made of heavy dense wood. Its shape is characteristic of the intermingling of the cultures of Tonga and Samoa. The club is a little more than 31" long. The shape of the club looks really good on the wall. The knob on the end of the handle is characteristic of early clubs. I purchased this club from Allard Auctions in 2000. Fair for you fair for me. Email if you have questions. PS I'm selling some artefacts because we just bought a new house and we need the money.
Samoan War Club Nifo Oti Wood Sword Antique Vintage Pacific Island Oceanic NR
A Samoan ceremonial or war club from the 19th Century or turn of the Twentieth Centrury. 790 mm or 31" long. Many broken teeth but the club is made of heavy dense wood with a lot of characteristic Samoan chip carving. The club has good patina. It looks very substantial on the wall where I had it hung. I purchased this club in Wellington New Zealand in 1997 from an old estate. There is some writing on the butt of the club as shown in the photo but I cannot read it. I gaurentee this club is at least 100 years old if not 125 years old! Fair for you fair for me. Email me if you have questions.
Solomon Islands Wood Paddle War Club Antique Pacific Island Oceanic ex Tad Dale
Solomon Islands wood paddle war club from before the turn of the twentieth century. The carving and quality indicate it was made before or just after the arrival of europeans so I think it was made in the mid to late 1800's. I purchased this club from Tad Dale of the TAD Gallery in Santa Fe. New Mexico in 1998. Deep rich patina with signs of a lot of handling. This is the best balanced club I have ever owned.and I've owned a lot of clubs. In fact, if I had to choose one club for self defense, this would be it. The sides are relatively sharp and the club handles so well. The wood is dense and heavy. At the handle end are the characteristic nose and eyebrow design(possibly frigate bird wings) found in Solomon Islands art and a center ridge on each side. The only damage is a small broken off missing piece of wood along one edge of the ... moretip as can be seen in the last photo on the bottom. Club is 103 cm long or 40 1/2" Fair for you fair for me. Email if you have questions. I'm selling some artefacts now because we just bought a new house and we need the money.
ANTIQUE 19TH C FIJI FIJIAN GATA WAR CLUB
Up for Auction is an antique Fijian“Gata” War Club dating to around 1850-1900. This isn’t a ceremonial or dance club– it is the real thing and very heavy. It is about 100cm long and weighs about 4kg. It has a nice patina that you would expect for its age. A real talking piece. Probably the most interesting thing about this club was it was part of the collection of Sir Henry Wellcome. See below) The number and variety of Fijian war club is testament to the fact that Fiji was beset by a long history of warfare and rampant ceremonial cannibalism. This article aims to help the reader understand and distinguish the different types and their intended specialized functions. Fijian clubs were the most cherished personal possessions of the Fijian warrior. It was designed and made for specific purposes and there are approximately thirty distinct and ... morediverse types of Fijian War club. Fijian clubs that had been successfully use to kill were either inlayed with human teeth or by the cutting of notches on the grip. A club use to kill many enemies was believed to have a life power of its own or mana. A Fijian War club with large amounts of mana were sometimes placed in a temple to the gods of war. And became ritual objects in funerary rites and certain craft ceremonies. Types of Fijian clubs could can be further divided by surface ornamentation and design. Type of wood, and by the type and nature of coir sennet wrapping. If you are interested in these details I highly recommend the book Fijian Weapons and Warfare by Fergus Clunie to which a lot of the information from this article is extracted. Gata Fijian War Club- This is one of the most widely used war club in Fiji. The angled cutting edge was designed to cut through and snap bones. The spur on the very top perhaps represents the open mouth of the striking snake. Sir Henry Solomon Wellcome(August 21. 1853– July 25, 1936) was an American-British pharmaceutical entrepreneur. He founded the pharmaceutical company Burroughs Wellcome& Company with his colleague Silas Bur

In the early 20 th century with very few other means of income and provision. The Aboriginal community of La Perouse was quick to engage with the new developing tourism market. They sold shell artifacts, shields, boomerangs and other items, and demonstrated boomerang throwing to the day trippers. What developed was a“transitional” culture' of production with traditional skills being employed to alter traditional objects for the new market. The production of souvenirs, such as decorated boomerangs, nulla nullas and shields grew in the 20th century with the establishment of a tram line to La Perouse in 1902, making the La Perouse Indigenous community one of the first to be involved with the tourism industry. Shipping insurance is included in the USA. Satisfaction is guaranteed. This item is guaranteed to be in the condition described. Rare Antique Fijian War Club/ Fiji Islands 19th Century/ Oceanic-South Pacific
Antique Fijian War Club"Kiakavo Vividrasa" Fiji Islands- 19th Century ~ please scroll down for more photos ~ SIZE: Length- 35.5" Diameter of shaft- 2.25" DESCRIPTION: Fine old Fijian war club of the type known as"Kiakavo Vividrasa" and dating from the early to mid 19th century. This club is of traditional shape with splayed top. Knob-end handle, honey-brown patina, and especially noteworthy for it's decorated sinnet handle. The handle is wrapped with striped bands of braided plant fiber, braided plant fiber intertwined with red and green trade wool, and a shiny, very dark brown- black animal hair or hair-like plant fiber. There are also about 28 very tiny(1 mm) glass seed beads woven in towards the middle of the handle, some almost hidden by the braided cord. I don't know the significance of these beads. ... moreThe club shows much wear from tribal use and has a fine old patina. It is made of a very hard and heavy wood and is relatively thick. Unlike the later 19th century and 20th century examples. AGE: Early to mid 19th century. CONDITION: Good ethnographically-used condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: Small scratches and wear over all. Small, very old and worn down chips to the knob handle. Some areas of loss and fraying of the sinnet braided decoration, mostly on one side(the side that does not have many beads) Small thin craze lines to the wood, from age, at the head of the club. There are no cracks or losses to the exposed wood of the club head or handle. HISTORY: Purchased from an old collection of ethnographic items on the American east coast. No other collection history available. PLEASE NOTE: The low opening bid. With no reserve, is not meant to reflect upon the actual monetary value of the piece. My auctions are structured this way to encourage bidding and to allow the final auction price to be determined by the bidders. ~ please click on image for high definition photos ~ This item will be a museum quality addition to any collection of Oceanic o

Rare Antique Maori Hand-Carved & Signed Patu War Club from New Zealand
My parents traveled to New Zealand in the early 1980s. While there. My dad stopped into an antique shop, and purchased this club. He was a collector of weapons, including various knives, cannons, and guns. I recall him describing to me after they returned from their trip how the indigenous people used to use it as a weapon. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE The store owner in New Zealand told my dad that this club is a Wahaika. It is one of the several different war clubs used by Maori warriors. The Wahaika was used exclusively by the most fierce and respected warriors with the highest rankings. It was given as a ceremonial piece. Often the figure carved forward of the handle was that of an ancestor. The essence of each person it was passed to is imbued within it. The Maori considered the spiritual energy or mana as sacred powers ... morethat gained authority over time. As shown in the last uploaded image. This club is unique in that it is signed by the carver. It is difficult to read, but as best as we can make out, it has a name, HRahchan’ followed by what could be‘Maori’ There are two other words at the bottom which may indicate other names since this kind of club was passed down or position of rank. Again, we are not sure because the handwritten letters are difficult to read. It is carved from wood believed to be Tawa. A native New Zealand hardwood. The wood is usually a creamy brown color. But in large trees it can be dark brown to black. The eyes of the ancestral figure and on the handle have Paua shell inlay. The exact age is not known. However. Similar clubs date in the 1800s. It is in very good condition with a few tiny rubbed areas. It measures 15” L x 5” W at its widest point. It has a cord for hanging, and has hung in what used to be my father’s office since he brought it back in 1984. Selling as is. There are only two other war clubs that come close to this one, but were not signed. They sold for $1725 and $2413. New: Price reduced. Shipping: It will carefully packaged and via USPS. F

Wonderful antique Samoan"Nifo Oti" toothed war club measuring 32" long x 5" wide at top and weighing nearly 2 1/2 pounds. 29 fierce teeth and nice chip carved designs with traces of lime accents. This club was collected by a man sailing from San Francisco to Australia in 1920. The ship stopped at several South Pacific Islands including Samoa. Antique elaborate war-club or ceremonial mace. Oceanic tribal art.
This war club or mace is very unusual and very rare as the head of this club is carved with a human or deity which probably represents a male ancestor reduced to its most basic body form. Head and body. The eyes are inlaid with brass discs and it seems it may have originally had some form of decoration hanging from its ears(small hole in each ear) The dark patina is obtained by laboriously oiling the weapon with coconut oil over many decades, sealing in the deep red/brown to black coloration, there is a dried piece of animal hide with fur around the neck of the club and it has three small notches cut/carved into it(kills) While these are surely weapons they were most probably emblems of status and power reserved for an elite minority possibly warrior chiefs. They where believed to hold the spirits of ancestors and obtain the power of those ... morethey kill. Although the object type appears from a distance to be standardized in format the extreme individuality of the carved and incised motifs cause each one to be a unique work of art. Its origin could be Oceanic, Papua New Guinea, Marquesas Islands, Polynesia. made of"Toa" wood with superb original deep patina, could date from the 18th or at least the early 19th century. measures 27" 68cm) WILL BE SHIPPED REGISTERED WITH TRACKING AND INSURANCE. Antique Figi War Club
This is an antique war club from Fiji. I know this because I took this item on to the antiques roadshow. The expert there told me it's value. In this condition, was $600. It is constructed from a single piece of wood, with the ball end carved from burl. There are abstract geometric carvings on the handle. It was used in war. And it was meant to be thrown so that the ball and would hit the enemy in the head and kill him. While there is something primitive about the appearance of this item when handled when can tell how carefully engineered it is so that the weapon would rotate in the air and land on the victims head to maximize damage to the enemy.

OLD ANTIQUE TRIBAL OCEANIC FIJIAN SOLOMAN ISLANDS WAR AXE NO CLUB SWORD
Being offered is a nice old antique Oceanic tribal war axe. Most probably from the Solomon Islands or the Fijian Islands. The axe measures 26" in total length. The axe head measures 6" in length and 4" in width. The handle is a dark hardwood, with a great glossy patina, and the lower part with a slight knob portion at the bottom of the handle. The handle is slimmed down slightly at the lower portion of the handle and the upper portion is thicker. There are a few dings on the knob at the end of the handle but otherwise in pretty good shape overall. The axe head, which is probably an European import, has a dark patina with some rusting and pitting throughout the axe head. The cutting edge with a slight chip towards the top. The wood has been notched at the top and the axe head fitted perfectly. There is no cap or bolt at the ... moretop. Just perfectly fitted. This axe shows very good age, most probably 19th century, possibly earlier. A wonderful piece that is not often encountered. Please e-mail with any questions. Please view my other auctions for a great variety of clubs, axes and swords. sword. Dagger, knife, club, mace, axe, tribal, ethnographic, ethnic, oceanic, Fijian, Solomon islands,
MASSIVE OLD ANTIQUE ROOT BALL WAR CLUB NO SWORD KNIFE OCEANIC NATIVE AMERICAN
Being offered is a nice old antique and massive root ball club. It measures 30 3/4" in total length. The root ball itself is about 4 1/2" long and almost 3" wide. I am not sure what type of wood this is but it is a light colored wood with knots throughout the handle and a nice twisted and knotty root ball. These root ball clubs can be found in various Native American cultures. Throughout various Oceanic and Polynesian cultures and also in Africa. For this one, I am leaning towards either Native American or possible Oceanic, maybe Fijian. This club has a lot of character. There is some splitting to the wood primarily on one side but it is still very solid and has a good heft to it. There is a hole drilled towards the bottom of the handle, presumably for a leather wrist strap. The wood has a nice glossy patina and shows very ... moregood age. I think this club would date to the 19th century. A great club that I'm sure if it could talk would have some very interesting stories to tell! Please e-mail with any questions. FANTASTIC OLD ANTIQUE WAR CLUB TRIBAL AFRICAN OCEANIC NATIVE AMERICAN NO SWORD
Being offered is a nice old antique root ball club with a massive root ball and of tremendous heft and weight for its size. This club measures 18 1/2" in total length. The root ball is about 3 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" wide. The root ball has a lot of old dings and there is an old age crack but it is holding solid. The handle and the root ball have a very nice deep reddish brown color and a rich glossy patina. There is a leather wrap in the middle of the handle. The leather has worn quite smooth from much handling. There is a very small chip at the very bottom of the handle. This appears to be a very old club. I'm guessing it is 18th or 19th century. Not sure where this club originates. It could be Native American. It could be Oceanic. It could be African. With the leather wrap in the middle of the handle I'm leaning towards ... morethis being a Native American root ball club. I wouldn't rule out Oceanic though as I believe some Fijian clubs have this kind of feature. You also see these kind of clubs in Africa. In any case. It is a fantastic club given its patina, heft and leather wrap. Please e-mail with any questions. Please view my other auctions for a great variety of clubs and swords. sword. Dagger, knife, club, mace, wooden, tribal, ethnographic, ethnic, African, oceanic, Fijian, native american.

Oceanic Wood War Club Tonga Samoa Vintage Polynesia Antique Hawaii Pacific
This Oceanic club is probably from Samoa. Tonga or possibly another Polynesian island. I cannot determine its origin but the coir(coconut rope) binding is identical to what is found on Samoan clubs. Also, the head is carved like an octagon which is also similar to Samoan or Tongan clubs. The length is 16 1/2" I bought it from the estate of a deceased woman in California, I have no other history. The patina is fine on the wood and the coir binding is very well done. The wood type is unknown but is not especially heavy. In my opinion it is either a discipline club for misbehaving wives or children or it is a show club. Email me if you have questions.

OLD ANTIQUE OCEANIC TRIBAL CARVED MASSIVE WOODEN TOOL SCULPTURE NO WAR CLUB
Being offered is an interesting unknown tribal object that most probably is Oceanic in its origin. It is a massive piece of carved wood that has geometric carvings all over the surface. The patina is interesting. There is one section that has a very well polished from handling glossy patina. Below that there is heavy wear from some type of use. Above the"grip" area is a nice blackish patina as if it has been in a smoky environment for a long time. The top done in a triangular and 4 sided shape. Perhaps a pillar or column from a house or hut? Some kind of post or tool like a weaving loom? Not sure but it is well made and very solid. My guess is that this is Oceanic in origin maybe the Trobriand Islands? Just a guess. If anyone knows what this object is please let me know. ANTIQUE WAR CLUB PACIFIC ISLAND WEAPON SOUTHSEAS OLD
That piece came from a town North- East. That we passed over 25 years ago. A small local exhibition hall( museum) was closing its doors. And selling some of the pieces. As usual. Nobody was interested in a strange looking stick. We bought it while a club was still mounted on a stand. I do not remember if any info came with it. Over the years I have tried to gather some info on it. My personal collection of 400 pieces. That was slowly sold over the years. Had all kind of" dull heavy weaponry" known to men. Long and short. From 18c bosun's naval persuaders to very rare police clubs. Nothing like this piece. In a way it is a mix between club. Sword and the axe. Opinions ranged all the way to executioners club. 24 inches. Handle is over 6 inches. Barrel" of the club is 2,5 at the widest, just under 1,5 at the handle. Very heavy. ... morePressing on the wood with a fingernail dents a fingernail, no mark on a wood. Striking it with a fingernail with force. Brings out a sound one would expect to hear from heavy brass pipe. It is covered with some kind of protective surface. That started to come off long time ago. Scratching it with fingernail or rubbing( small piece) it forcefully on thick spinning wool wheel does not produce any chemical smell. Very small SURFACE crack. Please see last photo with a ruler next to it. It is a well known fact. That African warrior can break bull's back with a single blow of a knobkerrie. In my opinion THAT thing will do a lot more damage. Please see all pictures. Ask questions. Good luck In the pictures club looks almost black. Real life color is very, very dark brown, more like antique horn than wood
