The ceramic hand painted body shows very little wear with about 3 light scuff marks from storage. There are no chips or cracks. see pictures) The green and pink background makes the images of what looks like dogwood blossoms of pink and purple stand out in elegance. The brass on the claw feet base as well as the spout shows to be in good condition without chips or breaks. It measures a total of 19.25 inches tall to the top of the handle. There are no cracks or major chips! It has a couple of surface glaz e flake chips and one s mall underside lip chip. Nothing significant. Please see photos. It shows little wear otherwise. These wash basins with pitchers were a staple in every Victorian& earlier home. Every room had one for washing oneself. Up for auction is this vintage Victorian blown white glass Ewer. It is hand painted with beautiful violets. The pewter pitcher spout has a man's face embossed on the underside with a pitch fork under his mustache. an animal head on the handle. The base is a scene with a doe deer& a fawn laying under a tree. The glass globe mounts appear to be bronze, although I am not an expert in this field. It is in good condition for its age. The base is 5" square and the porcelain is about 5" in diameter at the widest. The base and top of the ewer is a pot metal with a antique gold finish. It stands on a four footed base that has sweeping pierced curves- very ornate. The lovely porcelain is darker green at the top, fading to a light green then to a creamy white. The final color is a very pale pink. On this is hand painted pink edged flower with green stems and leaves. The top of the ewer is again very ornate with a long suspended handle. The pitcher has a 1-1/2 gallon capacity, and is faintly impressed on the underside with the Brown, Westhead& Moore stamp. I can't make out anything in the impressed registry mark with any degree of certainty other than the IV indicating the material. The date mark may be W which would date it to the early part of the Aesthetic Movement in 1865. There is also a white stamped mark D over 3484. This piece is in excellent condition with some minor cuts. Scuffs on the body consistent with age but NO chips, NO cracks, NO staining. The design shows a bare minimum of wear on the edges. I can see some clear crazing where the handle meets the top but none ... moreelsewhere. Very clean inside and out, no mineral deposits or residue on the interior that I can see. The transfer on one side depicts a very realistic section of grape vine with leaves and tendrils. The design continues to the front with an overlay of a decidedly Japanese-looking scroll scene. Very few pieces of transferware in this"reverse" color scheme can be found. According to my contact at Skinner. Antique Victorian Ewer Urn-Painted Flowers-Griffen Handle-Brass Metal-LQQK
For Sale an Antique Victorian Ewer Urn. There are Beautiful HAND-PAINTED Flowers throughout the glass center section. There is a very detailed cast handle with I believe to be a Griffen atop with its mouth roaring. There is also a cast face on the outside of the spout lip(See photos) The top and bottom appear to be made from some type of Brass Metal with exquisite detail. More really beautiful cast gargoyle-type face in the base. I am unsure of the exact year of this piece; it was picked up at an Upscale Estate Sale. This item weighs about 4 pounds and it very robust and sturdy. It measures about 16" tall. 5" wide at the glass section and has a square 4 1/2" base. The Ewer/Pitcher is so gorgeous. It has embossed designs on the mold and Neptune's head by the snout trimmed in gold. The floral is I think a Blue Cherry Blossom and it is handpainted(I have close-ups of the floral on both side, please take a look see) The Pitcher measures 9.5" by 8.5" by 11.75" ... morehigh(measuring at the widest portion of the ewer) It is unmarked.
