Wired interviews Brian Fargo
Wired talked with Brian Fargo about crowdfunding, Wasteland 2 and the Kicking It Forward project.
And it was. Wasteland 2 went on to raise more than $3 million, far surpassing its $900,000 goal. Fargo was shocked, and ultimately, touched. “Kickstarter was fulfilling this dream of mine,” he says. “I thought: ‘How can I perpetuate this and make sure it keeps going?’ The way to do that is always money.”
So in the middle of the campaign, Fargo launched KickingItForward.org, a website that urged Kickstarter creators who reached their funding goal to pledge 5 percent of their profits to other Kickstarter campaigns. Fargo pledged to do the same. Since then, what started as a simple idea has grown into a widespread movement.

Wasteland 2 Patch 5 Release Notes (61997)
Aaannd here we go! Patch 5 for Wasteland 2 is out, featuring a bevy of fixes, changes and improvements for your gaming enjoyment!
Per usual, it’s up on Steam right now - GOG.com and other stores are coming soon, as their own teams get the update up and running.
Highlights
- Added Castilian Spanish community localization to the game. It can be selected by picking “español castellano” from the Gameplay Options menu. Existing Spanish language players will have their language defaulted to the now-renamed “español americano” option.
- Large localized text clean up for all languages
- Optimized the way random encounter data is stored to reduce loading time and file size.
- Added more sound effects throughout the game.
- Clean-up of smaller bugs throughout the game.
I truly feel fortunate that with crowdfunding and the great response to Wasteland 2 I can actually start to plot out a long RPG future for us. I think it’s important to remember that some of these ideas are, at best, many years away. While they are not a part of what’s up next, I certainly would not have filed for them if I didn’t have a deep interest in exploring these concepts.
A #Wasteland2 collectors edition just showed up at the office today. So here’s a quick size comparison for everyone. - Jason Dora

Kickstarter Update #58: Life Beyond Release
Hello again Rangers!
Wasteland 2 has been out for just a few months now and we continue to be very humbled with the love it’s been getting from our backers and fans! It’s been great going on Twitter and our forums, reading your comments and experiences in the wasteland. There are quite a few creative custom parties running around Arizona and Los Angeles…
We’ve released three major patches since the last Kickstarter update, with over a thousand improvements to the game. The team has tackled things like major optimization passes, UI usability improvements, as well as tracking down bugs. Wasteland 2 is an incredibly large and complex game, with many moving parts, and we’ve been working down to the smallest details (including typos).
Many of the talented team members at inXile who worked on Wasteland 2 have moved full time on to Torment: Tides of Numenera, but we still have a dedicated crew giving Wasteland 2 the love and attention it deserves. Amongst other things, we intend to do a serious balance pass in the future that should tighten up some of the loose ends. This process will easily take a month to complete (have I mentioned this game is massive?) so we will need a solid window of time to complete it between updates.
Along with continued tuning of Wasteland 2, myself and a few others at the studio are beginning to work on another RPG that has been passionately demanded of us for a while now! It’s still quite early in the process, but we will have more news on that in the New Year.
