NVIDIA's "flagship" GeForce RTX 5090 Blackwell GPU has finally been officially unboxed, revealing new packaging and details about the model.

This time, it seems like Team Green has not only introduced a new architecture with the launch of a next-gen GPU but also revamped packaging.

It isn't an NVIDIA move to have a dedicated unboxing video of its GPUs, however, with the GeForce RTX 5090, the firm has switched up the overall look, which we'll talk about next. It's safe to say that NVIDIA has opted for an "eco-friendly" option with its GPU packaging, similar to what other mainstream companies like Apple are doing right now.
Starting with the overall package of the GeForce RTX 5090, NVIDIA has chosen an outer box made out of "paper fibers," which, too, comes in a brownish appearance. While this might not appeal much to hardcore gamers, it is a step in the right direction by Team Green in promoting the environment. The packaging is 100% plastic-free and is half the size of what the GeForce RTX 4090 came with, making it not only easier to handle but much more fascinating. Interestingly, the outer box contains seals similar to Apple's iPhone seals, and a unique "Inspired by Gamers. Enhanced by AI. Built by NVIDIA" motive is visible under the tear strip.
Inside the box of the GeForce RTX 5090 is a motif, debossed to give hints about the new cooler design. The inner box has become much more appealing this time, coming in with a "Lunar Stone" color scheme and die-cut GPU branding to indicate premiumness. The inner box also includes a 4x PCIe 8-pin to 1x 16-pin power connector, which is said to be the next standard ready to power this GPU. Now, diving into the central part, the GeForce RTX 5090 is measured around 304mm x 137mm, coming in with a two-slot design with a height of 40mm.
To our surprise, NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 "Founders Edition" is compatible with "SFF-ready" guidelines. This means that it can be mounted in dozens of compatible small form factor cases, making it much more deployable in consumer builds. This change in form factor is simply possible due to Team Green's new "Double Flow Through" GPU design, which comes with a multipart PCB. This arrangement allows two push fans to blow air straight through a central PCB, which houses the GPU, memory, and power subsystem.
Completing this "multi-PCB" design is a dedicated PCB containing the motherboard's PCIe connector and a flexible board with high-speed signaling, which connects the central PCB to a standalone I/O PCB. To top it all off, a unified "3D Vapor Chamber" allows vapor to travel directly to heat pipes, significantly increasing thermal performance. Other key details include four ports: three DisplayPort 2.1b with UHBR 20 and 1x HDMI 2.1b port.
Well, that's it for the packaging and unboxing experience, and it's safe to say that NVIDIA has nailed this one. Not only has the company managed to drastically decrease the size of its upcoming flagship GPU, but by switching up the packaging, it has done something out of the ordinary, and we cannot wait to see how the GeForce RTX 5090 gets received by mass consumers.
