Wayne County Homeland Security is hosting a training seminar for Community Emergency Response Teams on Saturday. The exercise will cover “grid search” and “search and rescue” scenarios to sharpen responses times and readiness.

Taderial Sturdivant is Wayne County’s Director of Homeland Security. He says the drills will identify any gaps in team response.

“It’s very critical that the community assists law enforcement and homeland security in emergency responses,” Sturdivant says. “The last time we’ve activated our teams were during the 2014 floods to do damage assessment.”

Sturdivant says all volunteers are registered and trained as emergency response team members and have experience in responding to disasters.
