Hellfire Caves
Attraction Overview
The Hellfire Caves are a network of man-made chalk and flint caverns located in West Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. They are also known as the West Wycombe Caves and they extend 260m underground.
Located less than a one-hour drive from London the caves are like nowhere you’ve ever been before. They were built in the 17th century and are a great day out for all ages. They host a number of family-friendly annual events, and they can even host Witchcraft and Wizardry parties.
The caves were originally excavated for the co-founder of the Hellfire Club who held meetings in the caves. They have been open as a tourist attraction since 1863. They are located directly beneath the impressive St Lawrence’s Church and Mausoleum.
The caves feature individual chambers and they are connected by a series of long, narrow tunnels and passageways. There are chambers with different names such as Lord Sandwich’s Circle, Franklin’s Cave, the Banqueting Hall, the Triangle, the Miner’s Cave and the last section the Styx which is the Inner Temple where the meetings were once held.
