Claire Kirkland Casgrain was born on 8 September 1924 in Palmer, Massachusetts, USA. She was married to Philippe Casgrain and Wyndham Strover. She died on 24 March 2016 in Île-Bizard, Québec, Canada.
First female member of Québec's parliament, daughter of another of its members, she was minister in the Jean Lesage government and put into the law in 1964 the judicial independence of women. The city of Kirkland is named in honor of her father. She was the mother in law of Julius Grey.
