carbon footprint

Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Natural science

DescriptionTotal emissions caused by an individual, event, organisation, or product, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent. Has to be calculated via a scientificly proven methodology.
Representscarbon footprint (Q310667)
Data typeQuantity
Template parameterThis proprety request is part of the project of creating an infobox for materials
DomainStatistical property of all individual, event, organisation, product...
Allowed valuesAny number.
Allowed unitskilogram of carbon dioxide equivalent (Q57084901), gram of carbon dioxide equivalent (Q57084921), tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (Q57084755), gigatonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (Q57084776) gram of carbon dioxide equivalent per kilometre (Q57084839), kilogram of carbon dioxide equivalent per kilogram (Q57084968)...
Example 1SAE 316L stainless steel (Q28453931) → 3.9 kilogram of carbon dioxide equivalent per kilogram (Q57084968) [1]

Motivation

This has hopefully become an important data for material selection. -- Thibdx (talk) 21:31, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

I would find it to be very unprecise. Carbon footprint refer to specific methodologies to assess the whole lifecycle. Emission does not says what part of the lifecycle is considered. The emissions of a car generally refers to it's emissions when it is used. That is very different from the Carbone footprint. --Thibdx (talk) 20:10, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Perhaps the proposed description should be modified to make the use and methodology clearer on that. --Yair rand (talk) 20:32, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
