Notified participants of WikiProject Hungary Dear colleagues, could you have a look at this item? Steiner Gyula was editor-in-chief of Q125931074 and a bakers’s trace association functionary for several decades beginning in the early 1900s and at least into the 1930s. Since he published in West Germany in the 1940s, he might have left Hungary post-1945. Could you maybe have a look in your databases? Thank you! --Emu (talk) 06:58, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

But then again, Amit minden sütőiparosnak tudnia kell : segédkönyv a tanonc-, segéd- és mestervizsga letételéhez was published in Budapest in 1947, so maybe he stayed. Anyway, some additional information would be nice! --Emu (talk) 07:01, 15 May 2024 (UTC) [reply]
Emu There is a private bakery collection on the internet (in Hungarian), but I couldn't find any information about it there.
The issues of Magyar Sütők Lapja between 1922 and 1938 have been digitized and are available online if you have a subscription: https://adt.arcanum.com/hu/collection/BME_MagyarSutokLapja/
But I couldn't find a biography in them either (there is a photo of him and his bakery).
Biographical information isn't published about him in any other digitized professional publication. Anyway, the problem is not that there are no results for his name, but that the name "Gyula Steiner" is not so unique that no results for other people are found...
I'm sorry I can't help you more than that Pallor (talk) 09:26, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
p. s.: there are two large Hungarian biographical databases, MNN (approx. 300,000 items) and PIM (approx. 500,000 items), but it is not listed in either. Pallor (talk) 09:37, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pallor Thanks a lot! Yeah, it’s a little curious because as you mentioned, people from Hungary are generally better covered than people of any other region that I know of. However, it’s sometimes not that easy to navigate this information without quite some knowledge in that subject matter. That’s why I contacted you but I think it’s safe to say now that there is no really easy way to find more information about this guy (CC Kolja21) --Emu (talk) 19:59, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
